Mach 2 - 1,400 mph or so - at high altitude.

From the base info on wiki, speed was in excess of Mach 1.7 and G-load from 7 up to 8.5, but there were so many variants that any of these figure can be discussed. In the bibliography there are some good links if you want to have a better information about the MiG21.

I think on later models this became the transponder fairing and the metal probe sticking out is a static wick.

Thanks again guys. I am not a model builder but thought it would look good if it had clearly the piece I have on it. A small kit I will build. ..first time in 40 years I would guess ha.
On a stand next to it would be great. Ill look on ebay and amazon but any other place thats a good deal will be helpful.

Crewed a business jet into Bacau in Romania in the early 2000s. A joint civvy/mil airfield, the dispersal was rammed with ancient IL-28 Beagle bombers and MiG-21s in various serviceability states. Once in leaking timber shack International arrivals we were invited to relax while our passports were confiscated by some old bloke in Romanian military uniform who looked like Leonid Brezhnev. While we waited for our fixer to arrive with the bottle of single-malt that would cue the magical return of passports we were asked if we wished to purchase any of the assorted cold-war aviation scrap outside.
It was only after we politely declined that we later discovered that the MiG-21s were still in front-line service. I think if they had pooled enough bits from the wrecks parked outside they could have generated one serviceable jet. Not sure what Leonid would have told his superiors if we had bought the entire 95th Air Flotilla either.

Dab of green paint on the tip of the fairing and job's a good 'un.

I'd do a quick online search to see the production dates for the MIG 21, that'll at least give you a likely earliest and latest manufacture date. If you do a bit of digging you might find that a certain variant used that design of fairing (or some other clue). That might narrow it down a bit. I think there was a Chinese copy of the MIG 21 too.
Shame you can't get that lamp on the back working...
