I thought this warranted its own thread!

Due to validate at Farnborough tomorrow apparently!

I wonder if they will treat RIAT to a flyby?

If they are validating at Farnborough tomorrow, I assume they must have departed the USA today.

Must have done.
I understand that they are not basing here, but at Fairford, so that will be an unexpected treat fir the RIAT attendees!

That's not anfficial press release to say the fleet is cleared, and as of this morning the USN has them still grounded.

I hope they make it as a lot of people are really looking forwards to them [it] being there.

I also hope they are not underwhelmed by it's less that stellar performance, don't forget the earplugs.

Looking very unlikely I would think. Latest rumour is that there won't be a decision before Wednesday at the earliest (USA time) so chances of making Farnborough I would think are slim to none.

Working at RIAT today in the hospitality areas. The word on the street is that there is no chance of the F35's getting to Farnborough.

Which is a great pity.

The marines selling posters celebrating its first overseas deployment said that it would only be too late when Farnborough shut.

It won't fly because it can't be validated to display so pointless bringing the thing over just to park it up somewhere out of the way.

Why can it not be validated to display?

I can't help but think that even just having one day there having flown in would do the PR and sales campaign some good!

Because all display validations have to be done prior to the start of the flying week - which starts tomorrow.
I understand there have been a couple of fit in validations during trade week evening in the past - but not for mitigating reasons that aren't the same as the F-35B situation.

I'm sure politically, there will be pressure to give a go to make the trip even at the last minute - especially as there has been an announcement this morning that they now know what caused the engine failure - excessive rubbing of the comp fan blades - which doesn't sound too good though.

I doubt lack of validation will be the excuse for it not flying at Farnborough. Late validations have been done before, Christ the red arrows only did half a display, broke all the rules about flying towards the crowd and town, and even crashed into the local wildlife and they still validated.

The SBC seem to have some leeway on validation, i bet if it makes it over here they will just let it do a flyby then send it up to validate for the rest of the show at 6pm after most have gone home. I wont be surprised if it only displays once or twice though, so if there is any prior warning that it will be in the air i would suggest making the effort to go an see it on that day, and certainly don't wait until the weekend, there is plenty of precedent of things turning up and only flying for one day then sitting on the ground or buggering off home again, and IIRC there is no intention of it putting its wheels anywhere near the tarmac in Farnborough anyway.

Display line rules do not apply to the Red Arrows, never have done. In fact they pretty much open any display they perform by coming from behind the crowd at full throttle (to make people jump).

but do agree, if it makes it here I am sure they will let it validate after show close, done that before.

I think people need to read the rules on display lines and rules. Flat and level flight is allowed, even BBMF do crowd rear entries.

Presumably only with CAA approval. I was probably a bit dramatic with "broke all the rules" but I'm pretty sure the reds perform some maneuvers in a downwards trajectory towards the town which is against the rules, but the display rules do allow for exceptions, which apparently includes a well known display team not needing to finish a validation display in order to be validated. End of the day my point was that after all the who ha about the F35 attendance i can't see if they make it over the pond that they will be met by a bloke with a clipboard telling them they cant display because there weren't here last Friday
