oh. Completely different design to Harrier
How long before they forget to close one before exiting hover?
The computer deals with all that automatically, the pilot just sets the speed. The nozzle at the back also rotates 90degrees down to balance it with a clutch between the two. If it goes wrong the computer than also selects eject. One of the issues with the test flying was that the bar that holds it up wasn't strong enough to stop it breaking off/bending as they miscalculated the sir flows around there slightly. How long before they forget to close one before exiting hover?

"Different to the harrier" Might as well say its different to a Saturn5 :-) How long before they forget to close one before exiting hover?
Check out of the Youtube videos the "sunroof" can stay open in flight where the cold air lift fan is in use, not just hovering- I imagine some kind of electrical jiggery pokery opens and closes them all as required.... probably the least of their concerns right now with all manner of gremlins keeping them grounded in the majority.

The upper lift fan door.(and seeing as they don't have wheelie bins in the USA I'm guessing that's just been made up... a few minutes ago )

Could you eject from yuor aircraft? To be fair i think that only applied in the hover- if either blowy thing goes wrong the aircraft is upside down in under a second and they decided the pilot would find that uncomfortable and hard to deal with. Thats what a test pilot said anyway.onyx39 said:

Took a while to find again as didn't realise it was so long ago.....just goes to show how long we've been waiting for this white elephant to materialise.
Here's the light hearted naming thread from 8 (yes that's eight!) years ago.....
