Blimey, thanks for the link. That looks very affordable! Might have to seriously look into that.

In 1989 she one of the B-17s used in the film "Memphis Belle" and was repainted in a lighter shade of olive drab and received markings to make her look like the original Memphis Belle (the original Memphis Belle was a B-17F - which didn't have the chin turret.
Slightly OT;

My Grandfather was a B-17 pilot during the war. He said that Memphis Belle got the ops side of things about spot on. The only thing they didn't communicate properly was quite how cold it was at altitude.

there used to be a guy who lived down our street who was a Halifax pilot, I asked him once how they coped with the cold, he said the rest of the crew suffered, but he was fine, as heaving the thing through the skies kept you nice and warm!

he was a real character, only passed away a couple of months ago and he had some great stories

My mates dad was a gunner on a B17 during the war. He was called lucky Jim. Iirc he survived being shot down more than once and even survived the Amtrac train crash into alligator swamp thing a few years ago too!
