What plane did my OH just see?
Discussion
OH called a few minutes ago. She works just off the M62 near Morley, near Leeds. She tells me she just saw a black, old fashioned plane with four props and was quite low but wasn't very noisy. That's about as good as her description gets! I know the Canadian Lancaster is black underneath but I'm not sure where it is right now.
If not a Lancaster, it might have been a Lockheed Electra?

I'm pretty sure they got rid of them all and moved to ATP and 737. Some might still be at Coventry in pieces but at least one went to Buffalo Airways in Canada (of 'Ice Pilots' fame)http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlantic_Airlines_%28...

I'm going Hercules, grey, but looks black from certain angles.

Normally grey, but that one is dark green, of which we (the RAF) have a few in the special forces support role. They especially can appear to look black.I'm going Hercules, grey, but looks black from certain angles.

Thanks folks - I'll show her the pics when she gets home. I'm thinking anything could look black when silhouetted against a bright but cloudy sky. Hercules could be a good call. I'm only thinking Lancaster as I know there a couple doing the rounds at the moment, but I don't know what movements they had scheduled for today.
