Hi I was wondering could help me track down a BBC programme or series filmed about the time of Top Gun, so late 1980's.

A friend who was a Harrier pilot was filmed for it, he told me a couple of snippets about filming

1) He and his colleague were asked to walk out to the flightline in the morning sun, however when the director saw they were both bald as coots they had to reshoot with them walking out with helmets on.
2) Filming of a bombing run on Cape Wrath was to take place, the director asked 'what do you say after dropping the bombs 'let's hit the deck and head for home?'. My friend replied 'nothing, it's radio silence, we are meant to be behind enemy lines'...
Next day came an order to get their arses into the Station Commanders office, where it was put clearly and concisely to them that they would B****y well say whatever the BBC wanted, apparently the requested words were spat out reluctantly for the take.

Anyway, my mate has just hung up his wings, so if anyone knows of such a programme, and where I might be able to get it for him that would be great!

Three series off the top of my head were Fighter Pilot (becoming an RAF Pilot), Test Pilot (obviously about becoming a test pilot) and the epic and stunning Reach for the Skies (a type of docu-series I doubt we'll ever see again)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSp3V-w8ISo - episode 6 Fighters

Don't know if any contain the relevant piece.

Reaching for the Skies is regarded as one of the best aircraft documentaries ever on TV smile

The music by Rod Argent and David Howes was pretty "epic 80's" as well smile

It is called "The Moment of Triumph", tried for years to try and get it. I believe it is available as Library music.

I have the episode with the aircraft goes to war and the Navy one.

Edited to add link.

Well, it not Harriers, but this 'film' apparently from the '80's contains almost exactly the phrase you stated at 21:30.

O/T but thanks for that link! I loved this series when I was a lad, and had been scouring YouTube recently for episodes but could only ever find two. That's my afternoon sorted now!
