Airwolf was a modified Bell 222, whereas it was Blue Thunder that used the Gazelle with bodykit

I was lucky enough to attend the Miramar airshow near San Diego (home of Top Gun) back in 1990 with shedloads of Tomcats on display, along with all the best the US military had to offer at the time. Fabulous day despite the sunburn.

Eric and I have reminisced previously about the Canadian 'Maple Leaves' team
One of those airshow 'moments': IAT at Greenham Common, either '79 or '80 - we always got tickets because my Father's Unit was involved in the airshow management.

During a lull, an American sounding voice came over the PA (actually it was Canadian) with the simple comment:

"Ladies and Gentlemen, the sound of freedom."

From behind the crowdline came 4x CF104s not above 50' and knocking on the door of dropping a boom.

To a man (and woman) the entire crowdline ducked in unison.

AWESOME!

While not fast jets, I would like to see a Bell 47, a UH-1 and a Blackhawk/Merlin in formation.

Definitely agree with both of these, SR71 especially. Also one I have a soft spot for is the Buccaneer, I remember seeing one at Farnborough (I think) many years ago and it's another of those aggressive in your face, hard b*****d planes.

The British Army historic display team would have been something you liked -

Cheers Eric, looks fantastic. As i understand it, G-MASH (type47) crashed a few years ago, and was restored to static condition

I hadn't realised G-MASH came a cropper.

I have video footage of it flying at Wroughton in 1993.

SR-71 for me. It supposed to fly at Finningly airshow many years ago (1987 I think?) when I was a kid but it didn't fly. I was sooo disappointed!

I have a recollection of reading it had come a cropper, but I can't recall the source. Still like to see one

I can't see any reference to an accident on that link. It might just me being blind.

The CAA database still shows it as current.

I really miss the airshows of the 70's and 80's when low flying was low and fewer restrictions made the crowd gasp.

Highlight for me would be a simulated airfield attack by Buccs, only ever saw it at Honington family days, never at a 'public' display. 5 aircraft fast, low, and from 5 different directions

This. Well 80's for me, but for me it would have to be more of a show of force, than an airshow. Stick me in the middle of Nevada during Red Flag and I'd be happy.

TBH I have more fun watching the planes take off for Red Flag exercises from Nellis than current Fairford air shows.

Better still, the collection Eric Brown had at Farnborough in 1945/46.

TR3-B for me as I'd love to see what a nuclear powered, high pressure mercury plasma anti-grav drive looks like nuts
