The Ockham (OCK) hold to the sw of London takes a fair amount of traffic first thing when all the heavies turn up from North America but as you can see from the footage Lambourne (LAM) to the east is the busiest hold for the rest of the day. Biggin (BIG) and Bovingdon (BNN) being the other two. BNN is normally fair quiet unless it's a North about day when the transatlantic flights come down the country rather than in through Irish airspace.

East Coast USA to Heathrow normally ends up holding at Ockham

West Coast normally goes to Bovingdon . . .

Yep thanks for correcting that, my comment was meant as a general principle for transatlantic traffic the lions share of which is from the eastern seaboard and Caribbean.

Hit the nail right on the head...aviation fuel has no duty on it either it's an international agreement apparently.

It's all bullst...

If you put duty on aviation fuel in the UK, all you'd do is make sure that we fill the tanks outside the uk and tank fuel in, meaning less revenue to UK suppliers and increasing CO2 emissions as you burn fuel to carry fuel.

You'd also put all UK carriers out of business ot force them to relocate somewhere that doesn't have the fuel duty.

So, other than that, fuel duty on aviation is a really good idea...

Your car can't carry 350 people though. Nor can it get from London to New York in seven hours. In other news, a coal-fired power station emits more than your home boiler. Who knew?
