So I'd just got into bed last night when I heard a loud noise of a prop plane, but it just kept getting louder and louder so I fired up my phone only to find I had an Antonov AN-12 flying over my house. I'm not that up on my planes but it's certainly not a plane I've seen in the UK before:

This was the one (UR-CAK)

The flight path has is dissapearing somewhere South of Greece, I wonder where it was off to? Wish it had been light so I could have seen it.

"UR-CAK" - pretty provocative on the part of the Ruskies hehe

They fly in and out of East Midlands airport regularly, in fact I think I saw one in the ground there this morning but didn't take much notice as they are regulars.

I guess if you're in the business you must see them quite a bit but if you're a mildly nerdy plane bore like me then it's all very exciting winkwinkwink

Robby, I'm not in the business although I have a background as an aircraft technician in the RN a very long time ago! I just happen to "spot" stuff when I walk the dogs around the perimeter fence!

I'm still interested in the unusual, and EMA is quite good for that as we get the Antonov in regularly, the 224 at least once a year, a Middle Eastern nations military Hercules has been here the last few days and left this morning (it's in regularly, too), RAF aircraft such a s Voyager and C17 pop in or over fly and the Rolls Royce Spitfire is based here.

The Indian Air Force AN-12's used to go into BAe Warton quite regularly when they were buying their Jaguars in the Early / Mid 80's.

Fantastic noise - almost as good as the Short Belfast.

the 224 at least once a year,
Which is it - the An 124 or the An 225?

I heard one of these the other day, this droning noise went on for what seemed like forever, so fired up flight radar and sure enough, a Cavok AN-12.
Feel sorry for the crew!

There's one that flies near Colchester more or less each night at around 23:00. Noisy bugger.

Think there may well have been a 225 there in the last month or so?

THE An 225.

Only one has ever been built.

Really? I didn't realise that.

Maybe I'm mistaken, and ti was something smaller.

I met an An crew in Delhi, Their overalls had An 125 across the back. It certainly looked like a 124. Can you shed any light Eric? I didn't have time to ask,.

Heard the same noise again a couple of nights ago and low and behold, it was this:

Looks like they are frequent visitors to our shores.

Its in and out of East Midlands fairly regularly- along with a Saudi Herk today. The Eurofighter this morning just popped by and didn't stop.
An An125 does visit fairly regularly, around once a week and the 225 around once a year.
