Does anyone know where the ship had come from before it arrived at Southampton ?

Link above States it had BMW's on it when it arrived

I hope it didn't have a load of Spartanburg cars on it ..

Back in the mid 70`s, I worked for a cruise line out of Ryde, the head office being in Southampton. I was a deckhand on the ship, albeit a small one, late at night returning to Ryde from Southampton the skipper managed to hit the Brambles. I was clearing up below deck when we came to an abrupt halt ! cups, plates, bottles etc flying off of shelves eek luckily all of the passengers had got off at Southampton so it was only the crew on board. The ship ran aground on a rising tide, we were afloat within 2 hours, no leaks, so returned to Ryde pier to moor up and go home, what a night rolleyes.

Interesting press conference there although, sensibly, speculation was avoided.

The owners have just confirmed that she was deliberately beached. Sounds as though the Captain and crew made a good decision which stopped an even worse situation unfolding.

I guess that's the only logical explanation for BMWs being on board, I expect the speculation of Porsches is probably wide of the mark though.

You waiting for an X5 in Germany then?

Now everyone is safe, real curious to find out what make of car is in the hold.
Southampton is used as a hub for many UK manufacturers, so it could be a hold full of Land Rovers/Range Rovers, Jaguars, Fords, MINIs, Hondas or mix of those and more. Having said that, I took a train journey which went past the port just before Christmas and the place was overflowing with Discoveries and Range Rovers of all shapes.
Oddly, unless maybe there's an insurance limit, it's apparently only half full. But they normally pack the vehicles in so they're virtually touching.
Just seen it suggested on another forum that the ship was ultimately going to Saudi and was only half full as it was picking up more cars in Germany.

If that's correct then seems likely it will have been loaded with pretty high end cars ie lots of FFRRs, Bentleys etc.

Also there was no mechanical failure - it was a cargo / fuel / ballast balancing problem. The pilot put the ship aground to stop it capsizing.
Looks to have been a good call after all.

Presumably the loadmaster type guy will be for the high jump.

So IF it is a load issue then is there a chance the vehicular contents of the ship will need to be removed before it can be refloated?

Pics I took today.
The bulging of the super-structure at the rear starboard side makes it look like the cargo might have done a bit of sliding about.

Incredible how the ship doesn't just topple over from that angle.

It looks like there is a guy standing ( some how standing at a 45 degree angle ) on the deck, to the right of the loading ramp.

Well with all the people they're going to have to ship in to get that shifted, the pubs in Cowes are going to be doing a roaring trade for the foreseeable future.

Going to be a big tourist attraction as well.
I remember a fairly big ship getting stuck on Brighton beach when I was a kid and people flocked to have a look
