So, does anyone know if this was done on a Lloyds Open Form, and if so, how much do you reckon the salvage firm will bank?

Early pictures showed some mannequins dressed up to look like crew to deter pirates.

How the hell would a pirate get up the side of that ? The salvors are using a helicopter

The Salvors are interested in a long and rewarding life.

The average Somali pirate has a grapnel, rope, impressive personal courage and a total disregard for health and safety.

Are they based in Sangatte these days? IIRC their modus operandum is to take hostages, so what would be their aim if no-one was on board?

Aside from the intrinsic value of a large tanker or container ship worth millions ?

The cargo itself ?

If the cargo is going to be written off, one might say 'Sure pirates, you stay there until you run out of food'. They can hardly steal the vessel either.

I suppose they could set fire to it and cause a pollution hazard though.

It's moving this afternoon:

"The vessel list is now at 5 degrees. This means that the vessel will now move from Alpha Anchorage at 1545 (approximately). It will be turned in the right direction.

The Hoegh Osaka is scheduled to arrive at Berth 101 in Southampton Port at 1900 (approximately).

During the towing operation to bring the HOEGH OSAKA in to Southampton Port, a Restricted Airspace (Temporary) (RAT) will be placed 1 mile either side of the navigation route and up to 2000 ft. This is designed to provide essential safety during the towing operation.

There will also be an exclusion zone around the vessel itself of 1,000 metres ahead and behind and 100m either side."

Notice how they're constantly mentioning the RAT, annoyed of people and UAV's perhaps??

I don't think the mannequins were put there with the expectation that the ship would spend a few weeks moored off Soton..... wink

My question seems to have given this thread a bit of a list to one side.

For clarification, I merely observed the slab sided enormity of the Ship and wondered how (in more treacherous waters) anyone could get up it.

Seems to have come upright quite quickly at the end there, wondering if anyone's kept a log of water pumped to angle of dangle?

Just going past on the IOW ferry and appears to be ready to go, fully upright as has been said.
