For anyone interested this is a great video documenting the electrification of the WCML. A lot of the equipment and substations are almost unchanged today:

Interesting that, thanks. All the lads working in the foundry had pairs of dark glasses. No hats, gloves, goggles etc.

Saw one of these trains today. Was stood at Bingley waiting for a train to Leeds and it went past on the other side - just couple of yellow coaches with a '67 on each end.

At least it didn't catch fire like the one just north of Stafford a few years back.

Happened to me and a mate working it approaching Wembley a year or so ago, one of the hydraulic hoses burst dropping fluid onto the bogies and brake gear below, the driver on a passing unit saw the smoke and rang the Bobbie to get us stopped. Made more than twelve hours that day!
