Anyone used them for charters?

Currently looking at a couple of Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 469's out of Sukosan for a little work jolly.

Any comments, tips or anything to look out for?

Shop around. We've always found LateSail willing to do a good deal. This year they've found us a 2015 12m Bavaria Farr design for a little over £3k for a fortnight.

Last three years we've sailed out of the ACI marina at Troigr but you need to get booked early if you want that specific destination. There's a lot more choice and yacht availability out of ACI Split. Trogir is a lovely walled town and pretty much in the middle of the Crotian coast and only 20 mins or so from Split airport - ideal for a base.

Just one thing to bear in mind - shopping for provisions in most Croatian ports is a million miles away compared with the megga supermarkets you'll find in France or Spain. Most of the waterside shops and tiny supermarets get cleaned out by lunchtime on changeover days.

Thanks Steve - useful points. Most likely we will be skippered for both boats.

Skipper will be expensive, so shop about for that too. I'm not sure what the minimum qualification requirement for bareboat is, but it's actually really easy sailing along the Croatian coast. Most days there's little or no wind until lunchtime and even in the afternoon unless the Bora kicks in you'll not get much more than a F3. That means much motoring and sometimes a little sailing. Not ideal for me but it suits Mrs JS as even after decades of sailing she still gets a bit vomit at times.

Navigation is easy, unless you're pushing for one of the offshore islands it's simple pilotage all the way and allthough I insist on chart and pencil navigation for offshore work all the charter boats have chartplotters that even a technology retard like me can use.

Only difficulty you might find is safe anchoring. Much of the coast is steep too, and you'll be in 20m or more of water the same distance offshore which makes secure anchoring a bit tricky. I'm not sharing any of my favourite bays with anybody... wink

Thanks again steve.
I understand the comment about anchorages having spent time dealing with the same issues around the greek islands.
