Ryanair Transatlantic!

I've flown Ryanair and plenty of the cheap airlines. Pay your tenner to get an emergency exit seat, put headphones in and zone out. You'd be worse off on many flag carrying airlines.
Until your flight gets cancelled or surprise surprise 20 mins to turn an aircraft around turns out to be insufficient. The contempt that Ryanair show for their customers when things go awry is why I pay the extra few quid to fly with any other airline.djc206 said:

That's the issue I have. Maybe it would be fine, but I don't feel minded to risk going there. It's just a Ryanair thing - I use easyJet quite a bit.Easyjet stranded me in Ljubljiana once. Late at night as the airport was closing, cold and snowy outside.
No help with transfer back into the city or with hotels etc.
A right royal proper 'screw you' job.
Had to beg the driver of the last bus for a lift back to town - zero local money.
Next day the pax watched as the local airline functioned normally and Easyjet bullshooted us about a replacement plane.
In the end most of us simply paid for a seat on Slovenian Airways, who apparently had appropriate planes.
I've vowed never to fly on Easyjet, Ryanair or similar since then.

Easyjet, Ryanair etc have a Buy new, Maintain as little as possible and keep em flying philosophy which tends to mean they have no slack in the system for these mishaps. Jet2 while still vulnerable at least BUY their planes and spend time maintaining them. It does mean that they are not too worried if they have to ground a jet if there is no route for it to fly and do at times have some slack that can be taken up. Does not always work out but it seems that fewer do complain. Please note that Ryanair and Easyjet's planes are safe and they do not skimp on maintenance. But it's when needed not preventive. Jet2 Do preventative maint because the planes are older and do need keeping an eye on, but it seems to work better.

In 2006 I flew London to Sydney for £189 with Thompson.
The plane stopped twice to refuel, 2 hours in UAE, 2 hours in Singapore. They even included food and drink but the seats were VERY tight.
I'm guessing it wasn't a cost effective option as despite the plane being 100% full they cut the route almost immidiately.
The last time I flew to Australia was with Emirates (economey) in an A380 - it's fair to say that I'd have to be hard pressed to choose a Thompson / Ryan Air option over a flag carrier (cartain Southeast Asian carriers aside) for my next trip!

I would not even consider flying to the states with these clowns
As they stand just now, NO WAY long haul.As seen on this site - treat it like a bus with wings and you are fine. I'll go with that for 1,2,3,4 hours but 5 hours or more on one of their planes, as they stand today? I really would pay £200 to avoid that discomfort.

Ryanair have never left me stranded anywhere, the worst I have had was flying from Bristol to Pau and I was delayed inbound by 7 hours. Norwegian airlines, however, had a bloody pilot strike that they didn't advertise clearly on their website and let me book 3 flights which all were subsequently cancelled and I had to use Ryanair to save the day for two of them and SAS for another. Saying that, I'm not proud when it comes to saving money on flights and I flew with Norwegian yesterday I just use the low cost airlines the way they are supposed to be used and don't expect anything other than the flight. No help with transfer back into the city or with hotels etc.

I'd fly with Norwegian, wifi on a 2 hour flight is a Godsend, let alone heading over the Atlantic.
Do their 787s have wifi as well?Crossing the Atlantic limits the aircraft to just a satellite connection whereas the 737s can use land based transmitters which are cheaper.
