So if you can't operate a ex jet fighter, can you operate an ex miltary attack helicopter?
You can operate ex jet fighters. Vampires, Venoms, Meteors, Hunters an F86 and a Sea Vixen have all been operated by civilians in the UK. It depends on the complexity of the aircraft.

I suspect a Cobra attack helicopter wouldn't be a problem, a Huey has been on the UK civil register and it's mechanically not much different. An Apache or a Hind might be another matter though.

If I won the lottery I would have a UH-1 in Vietnam slick configuration for pissing about in when the weather is nice.

I would then have a new Jet Ranger 505 for posh bits.

So my plan of TBE'ing an Apache around the shard at dusk is probably not a goer then?

There's an article about learning to fly a P51 Mustang in this month's Pilot magazine. Apparently it takes an average of 12 hours flying at 3450 USD an hour, though their average student will probably have a lot of high performance tailwbeel time beforehand.
