Although it's the quickest ever, these types of maglev trains have been achieving high speeds for years. The technology has been promoted as the future of rail travel since about 1962.

I recall one of Laithwaites Xmas lectures where he drew a, IIRC, triangle and proved that the number of degrees wasnt 180. It might have been a Circle but it got me hooked on maths
It was rather like the question where 3 men have a meal and instead of paying 10.00 pay 9.00 instead but the waiter pockets a few quid

Now if anyone can located his question..........

In service is another matter ..was on the Shanghai maglev recently and it only hit 180MPH.
