Is there a Halifax anywhere in the UK that a veteran visiting from Australia could visit?

Theres the remains of a Mk II at the RAF Museum at Hendon.

Theres is also a 'bitsa' resembling a Mk III at Elvington.

Thanks, I'll pass it on. He's currently at Cosford and seems to have found a chunk of one there too.

This IS the Hallibag at Hendon

Though you might like to give prizes for knowing it

Why the hell RAFM Hendon keep the Bomber hangar so dark eludes me frown

(Yes I'm sure there's an adequate reason but even so...)

Rescued/recovered from a lake I think

Aha, I got confused by the speed with which the man (Ron Hickey DFC) has covered the ground. He saw the Wellington at Cosford, and the Halifax (above) at Hendon as you say.

The reproduction and restoration at Elvington is pretty good -

The only fully restored original is in Canada -

A bit of Bomber Command fest

Airfix has just re-released their (very) old Halifax kit. Unfortunately, it's still the same old geriatric kit from over 50 years ago - but the new box art by Adam Tooby is lovely.

Sadly, this is still the only kit of the Hercules engined Halifax. The old (but not too bad) Matchbox kit featured Merlin engines and the newer and much better (with some flaws) Revell kit is also a Merlin engined variant.

I'm guessing someone forgot to tell him (Ron Hickey DFC, as in this chap? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9v6HqxCCMqk), that he's supposed to go slow enough to let the youngun's keep up. hehe

55,573 reasons.

During the RCAF's Halifax operations between March 1943 and February 1944,
the average loss rate was 6.05%, producing a mere 16% survival rate (for a tour of 30 operations).

Still not a reason not to turn the lights on.

Lighting at the RAF Museum has been a bone of contention for ages. The official line is that it is due to costs.

Sad state of affairs indeed.

I wonder if they slipped one less F-35 wonder jet [that is sarcasm btw] would the released funds trickle down through the layers to help these bastions of our heritage?

You could raid the foreign aid budget and the money being spent pulling Africans out of the Med.

I was very impressed by the one at Elvington when we visited last year, well worth a visit if you are in the York area.

Or divert the Trident replacement fund.

One F-35 is not worth one drowned African child. Unless you subscribe to the Katie Hopkins school of thought.

What proportion of the UK's GDP is worth an African child do you think? Numbers invited.

Easy chaps, don't be dissuaded from pointing the finger at those who created this unholy travesty of human suffering...
