It appears RR have won a £6.1bn engine deal to supply Emirates with power plants for 50 A380's

The largest deal ever for RR........

£6.1bn deal

Well done, a great win for the UK and industries associated with the product clap

Do that many people fly at once?

That could solve the over crowding in a small country!

in 2013 Delta had nearly 1300 planes in its fleet.

Though not sure how many of those are full on passenger jets.

A few of the US carriers have shed loads of planes (Delta, United, American to name but 3). However, most of their fleet is mid size short haul stuff - MD80s, 737s, A320s that kind of stuff. Not much more than 150 pax a go. Emirates fleet is mostly 300+ seat long haul monsters.

Excuse my ignorance, I'm guessing that's 4 engines per 50 planes? £6bn seems a lot? Guess that includes prolonged maintanance and service?

One of my previous was A380, installing FTI to record all environmental conditions throughout the cabin zones, temp/humidity etc, seems they got their sums right then hehe

Athough I seem to recall from this very forum that aero engines are leased not sold - so there will be a leasing company growing fat too.

And I bet that figure includes running costs over a number of years

I have had a theory for a while that Airbus have possibly sold the new aircraft at a heavy discount, to replace some of the earliest into entry service. which will allow the 2nd hand aircraft into the market for customers who want to buy 2nd hand?
