I remember watching a Britten Norman Islander perform a display on one engine at Greenham Common in 1976.
A BN Islander landed in a car park here a while ago because the loss of one engine meant that it wouldn't have made the runway that was a couple of miles further away.

Must have been overweight; BN2s have satisfactory single engine performance when operated within loading limits. If pilots don't weigh their passengers and baggage when operating in hot climates then bad things will happen.

G15 has a way with words.
I am not being a white knight or anything, G15 is perfectly capable of defending herself, but do people need to attack her quite so much? She has a direct, often italicised, often abbreviated style, but she also has experience of flying a four engined propeller driven military aircraft so can offer a unique (for PH) insight into the question posed.

She could have said 'three engined flight would not be a wise choice' but how bland and uninteresting would that have been?
Maybe some people become socially autistic once they become a pilot.

I believe that is my first 'rolleyes' in quite a few years of PHing; I was saving it for a special occasion.

You can roll your eyes to your heart's content. Most become thoroughly decent people, others seems to let it go to their head like the subject here.

I went along to the 737 sim@ Coventry a couple of years back, and had a great session in the sim with a totally bonkers hungarian ex-BMI captain. An excellent guy who knew his stuff and knew exactly how to communicate it. Others don't seem to be able to do that.

You don't know that many pilots obviously.

In general, you'll find most of us to be exactly as G15 is. Basically, intolerant of idiots and people who profess to have knowledge, but in reality they are just keyboard pilots talking absolute cobblers.

There are plenty of times that I've read stuff on here that has made my teeth itch with it's total nonsense. G15 just says it and can be bothered to type up an accurate response.

I don't consider her to rude in anyway really, just blunt and to the point. If you are being an idiot, she'll point that out. Perfectly acceptable behaviour if you ask me.

As the father of a son who was diagnosed with autism, it is your comment that qualifying as a pilot might make some people autistic that made me roll my eyes.

Getting back onto the sub-topic, I believe G15 was a QFI (qualified flying instructor), which means that someone in authority in the RAF must have selected her to teach RAF pilots how to fly, which I suspect meant they were happy that she 'knew her stuff and exactly how to communicate it', and not just in a simulator but in a real aircraft with taxpayer's money, pilot's careers and aircrew's lives at stake. But hey, they were probably 'socially autistic' too right?

Nice to know PH is part of the front line.

It certainly seems like it is on occasions - which is why I like it.

My father started flying just before the war (II) and continued flying until BA retired him.
You could not chat to him on the phone only communicate. We just got used to saying hi and asking to speak to mum.

Oh, pure comedy! You are judging me on my 'decency' on the basis of a few internet posts yet you do not see the irony in that. How 'decent' is it for you to cast aspersions across the internet? Can we say hypocrite?

As for 'going to my head', are you serious? Idiots who let it 'go to their head' end up as smoking holes in the ground. Obviously, by dint of the fact that I can post here I am not a smoking hole in the ground. Indeed in 6000+ military flying hours I was never a smoking hole in the ground. Ergo it didn't 'go to my head'. rolleyes

I'm not someone running simulator time for a wannabee. I'm an ex Mil pilot. If you don't like that then maybe you should have worked harder at school.

Oh, and I've probably taught more successful pilots than your favourite Hungarian. wink

Late to this argument wink but did someone say gliders don't fly or was it that they aren't aircraft? scratchchin

Gliding is just falling with style, successful gliding is falling away from the ground wink

WOW, talk about going off topic!

No update from BBMF they have been using the Dakota for flypasts duties in replacement of the land but even that broke the other day. I think BBMF may want to forget about this season.

From their FB page on 26th June ...

Lanc Update
The good news the rear engine subframe arrived back today along with the oil tank and various fittings. The rebuild will begin on Monday, later in the week the fire bulkhead should arrive followed by the engine bearer a week later.

Now some bad news the Dakota will not be out and about this weekend as she requires an engine change due to metal particles found in the oil filter during a routine inspection. For tomorrows events she will be replaced by the Hurricane PZ865. Paul B
