Anyone need spares for a RR Merlin?
Discussion
A few years back I got involved with a guy flying a D.H.Vampire in the U.S. I was going over to see him and he asked me to pick up a Nose cone, brake bladders and pitot tube for his aircraft. I was despatched to a company in Luton and was shocked to pick up all of these parts in original packaging off of the shelf!
There's a hell of a lot of "N.O.S." about, if you know where to find it!

The RAF stockpiled so many bits, and so many are still being unearthed. A friend of mine owns a Meteor F8 and 2 F4 Phantoms under restoration, he has an enormous stock of bits acquired from specialists, aerojumbles and swapmeets - all in their original brown crinkly wax paper wrapping with handwritten reference tags on them! There's a hell of a lot of "N.O.S." about, if you know where to find it!

They might be for sale at the right price and I have a cradle that allows me to run one.
Can also make either a cradle or trailer to give you a turn-key toy.
They always generate a crowd......
Paul
PS. You could also put one in a car. I just happen to have a 1930 RR PII chassis too.

If you are talking about the Meteor version of the Merlin, then I have a few. Various models from a Mk3 to Mk 4B1.

I am indeed talking about the ex-Merlin version They might be for sale at the right price and I have a cradle that allows me to run one.

I currently have my eye on one owned by a friend of a friend, it was dismantled for inspection but is complete and in good condition - but being in bits means I should get it cheap. If it falls through though I shall be beating a path to your door!
Assuming I manage to scrape together enough to buy it this winter, the short term plan would be to display it on a trailer, probably with a hefty flywheel on it to simulate a prop on an aircraft version and allow some proper throttle applications
Long term plan is indeed to put it in a car - a period chassis as you have suggested, to avoid SVA and Q plate nightmares. I'd like to do a road-legal 2-seater version of Chris William's (in)famous Napier Bentley, hopefully with daytime use concessions etc to avoid having to spoil the lines with headlights and such things.

They are a quality piece of engineering considering they originate from a 1930's design.
