On the team so too speak - working on the hospitality side of things in one of the chalets.

Think I will be in the Boeing chalet as I was last year. I'll know for sure on Wednesday.

Going on sunday. Not going to the actual show but going to watch from Totterdown hill like I did last year.

I'm going to Totterdown for the first time this year, not decided on which day yet though.

I think it's over priced, there's not that of interest, the site is massive and the whole thing is dying a lingering death.

Went last year. This year chose Cosford instead which I felt was better.

Oh and dear defenders for kids is lame. They are going to spend half their teenage years with massive headphones on listening to speed garage at volume 11, or, in the backseat of a Citroen Saxo driven by drunk/stoned/high teenager at speed. Ear defenders at an air show is kinda pointless in the big picture.

I'm not going to argue because its not worth it but by teenage years, the ears will be developed and not as susceptible to damage from loud noises as when they are pre-school age. Having a child with a unilateral hearing problem certainly skews my opinion but there is nothing more annoying than people giving st advice that can result in permanent damage to hearing just because you think its "lame".

I agree RIAT has gone downhill in recent years though, the organisers seem to be pandering to the spotters far more now and a random Spanish F5 on static display gets tehm all excited because its a new tail number for them to tick off in their book.

It sold out this year because its the last time people will see the Vulcan and it will sell out in 2017 because they will have an F35 (assuming some people dont make it to Farnborough next year to see it)...

Whats wrong with this one then?

hopefully someone in government will see sense and ditch the whole bloody shooting match!

Yes; it'll be our first time at RIAT. How early should we arrive?

Get there at 6, take a stovery, pan and kettle and have bacon butties and coffeeasy until fares open at 7.30. Traffic by 8.30 is a nightmare!

All the hotels in the area including Swindon are taken up by the display teams. Get there before 7 as the traffic is a nightmare a friend aimed for 9am last year and I was meeting him on the gate with his passes, 11:30 he arrived due to traffic!

I started looking further out and the place is just booked out for miles in every direction, enough so as to make no odds to coming from home each day.

Damn. That's going to be an early start for me then. - I'm two and a half hours away and am bringing others that'll no doubt hold me up by not being ready on time.

In the days gone by when I used to go to RIAT (not been since the late 90's).... I'd be leaving home in London at 5.30am just to get into the queue for the gate to get in as it was about a 60-70 min drive back then down the A40. The drive to Mildenhall for Air Fete was a two hour drive, and we'd often be leaving the house at 4.30-4-45am and we'd still be in quite a queue at the gate.
