Sat in the airport lounge at Dublin watching a DHL cargo flight surrounded by armed police as they load it up.
....now it's taxiing towards the runway and the police and army land rovers are following it.

Any ideas what it is they are protecting? ...my guess is cash.

cheers

I don't know for sure but almost certainly must be cash, or precious metals?

Is it heading for Switzerland, could be a bung for Sepp? Brown envelopes not enough these days

The Football Association of Ireland are having to pay back the $5 million they got from FIFA as it was only "resting in their account" up to now.

I worked for DHL for a bit at Hatton Cross Heathrow, we had quite an issue with hold-ups at the time.

Intel Chips and Launch (pre-launch product used to be flown in on charter planes) Shipments for Mobile Phones were particularly hot targets.

At one stage we also had undercover police working in our warehouse because they suspected, correctly, many holdups were inside jobs.

sometimes they are empty boxes or weighted, and they send the real stuff on another flight, usually gold.

That's what it used to be like for the cash in transit vans when I lived in Ireland, not just at the airports.
You'd see that van, and approx 6 military with two vehicles. They'd be out with mirrors checking under vehicles etc.
This was in the south close to Limerick so still quite a CIRA presence in the area.

And Limerick used to be the main hub for grey market cigarettes and drugs bound for the UK. Hence the strong crime gangs fighting for control of a lucrative trade route.
That guy who wrote the book Mr Nice had it spot on.
