Any ideas why planes might be "blocked"?

People/governments/corporations etc request (to flight radar) that their aircraft are blocked so the public can't see where they are.

Flight radar usually go along with it so that the ADS-B signals don't become encoded or new laws prohibit sites like FR 24 showing them.

There's a long list of blocked aircraft including many different countries government aircraft and private business jets.

Thanks. smile

The example above apparently originated in Budapest.

I wonder if the occupants have been at the Grand Prix today. smile

Yup, probably a business jet heading to the states.

There was an article in the sunday mail yesterday telling everyone how to follow Prince Williams air sea rescue helicopter on flightradar24, so I would imagine that will be blocked pretty soon

It's a shame, I hope we don't end up with Aircraft ADS-B signals being banned from being shared in the UK, as we already have with radio transmissions.

I think flight radar are right to block when requested really. Especially if the alternative is a blanket ban. Even if you get your own receiver at home, you'll still only pick up the signals 200 miles or so away and won't be allowed to share or see other UK information.

Most of the time you'll find they are biz jets, rather than military aircraft. Used to see plenty of 'known' private jets that weren't on there.
Interestingly we used to find a difference between two different apps and what they displayed (watching a C130 out of East Mids a few months back).

FR 24 has started showing more business jets and light aircraft and turboprops recently because it uses an extra system (called MLAT) to show non ads b aircraft. It also shows different aircraft to plane finder as they both have different people feeding the information to them.

I had wondered, with the amount of sites/apps, whether the information was more 'centralised', but obviously not. smile

We used to see a few regular biz jets that were one owner aircraft and were always blocked data.

Not really sure why everyone should have the right to block their plane from being tracked. After all its not as if one knows who is on most business jets, if anyone. Blocking of politically sensitive or military aircraft makes sense though.
