There was an item on the local news (ITV I think) earlier referring to the additional costs that airshows are going to have following this accident.

We'll see how many cease altogether.

The lack of XH558 is going to make a big difference anyway but lets see what else happens

This....

XH558 was a massive crowd draw. Nothing has replaced her that has a similar effect. Nothing probably will...

There's also speculation that there was an engine flameout, or that it wasn't developing full power.

.
Really? nuts

Although I'm sure you'll refuse to accept as fact anything contained within the AAIB interim report anyway. banghead

I watched the aircraft live and the engine did not flameout or make any strange noises as far as I'm aware.

It does not matter you were there or not. If you're not an aviation expert you simply could not know what your talking about.

I accept but of course it matters if I was there rolleyes

I'm no expert but I'm entitled to express my view as a witness and I have good working ears.

The so called 'flash' as seen in various pictures in the Daily Mail for example and identified as possible flameouts are not correct and are nothing to do with the engine.

I'm happy to stand by my thoughts here regardless of my experience, however thanks for your reply.

Well it's all over bar the shouting and pretty much in line with what most peopke who have displayed jet fighters thought within 48hrs. Andy Hills cocked it up by starting too low.

I'm not surprised. He's getting on a bit and only had forty hours on type. Low level display flying is an unforgiving hobby.

Hopefully they will still let these older aircraft fly and display but restrict them to nothing more challenging than a few low level turns. It's nice to see these things fly but it's not necessary to see them being hurled about performing what these days are unimpressive and mediocre aerobatics.

If that's the case, wouldn't it be better to control the pilots more closely rather than the aircraft? An incompetent pilot will be a higher risk no matter what restrictions are placed on the aircraft.

I'm not sure, but I'm sure that some posters will say the report is wrong etc etc.

The full report is written and as always in these cases it is circulated to interested parties before publication. That's the shouting phase.

It's easier and more comprehensive just to restrict what these Cold War era aircraft do at displays. That solves the concerns about both pilot competence and aircraft engineering. 40hrs on type achieved non intensively ain't much for the riskiest sort of peace time flying activity.

How do you know it's written? Have you seen it? Are you one of the interested parties?

It's Andy Hill singular btw biggrin

Would you like to share how you were able to see it? I see your account is new and you've only posted on this topic I think?

This all seems a bit strange to me.

How does this thread get to 109 pages?

Pilot enters maneuver too low, pilot hits the ground, been the same story since the dawn of display flying.
