Anyone here own a boat/barge in France?
Discussion
Hi guys,
We're in the process of clearing out the pads here, selling up and sodding off to France where we hope to buy a boat on one of the canals and a home to boot.
Nothing huge on the boat (or home front) so 100ft max length and a doerupper is fine, too.
But first off, I was just after some PHer perspective on life on the French canals...do, please do tell me the good, bad and darn right ugly!
TIA.

Our boat is Uk based so no real help but you might want to join this site...lots of useful info and many Franch based members IIRC.

No input at all I'm afraid, but it's something I'm very keen to do myself one day, the French canals look fabulous.
Rather oddly, I ended up with the inland waterways ticket that's needed to navigate on the canals, which sort of sowed the seed. Never used it yet though. Apparently they can be a bit stricter on rules on the inland waterways than they are on the coast, so it'll be worth making sure your tickets are up to date.

Thanks, Alfie :-)
You're welcome.We are going to have couple of years on UK canals and then perhaps an extended trip around Europe's waterways.
Keep a blog if you end up doing it...something like this;
