Commuting in London question
Discussion
Hello all,
This is probably not the best section, but it is the closest fit i can find! Mods please move if there is a better place.
Looking at buying a season tickets for travel into london for my wife. The short story is that the yearly ticket with zones 1-6 is nearly £1000 more than the ticket to travel to "London terminals" The underground route between the terminal that she arrives into london at, and another terminal across london, takes her past where she needs to be at work. Can we save some money by buying this ticket rather than the one with zones 1-6?
In a nutshell, does a From start station to London terminals season ticket allow cross london travel between london terminals on the underground?
I hope i have been clear enough!
TIA James

Tickets issued for travel to/from London usually show 'London Terminals' as the destination/origin rather than naming a specific station. This is because the ticket is valid to more than one London Terminal station provided it’s on any reasonable line of route. Tickets can only be used on National Rail services. For example, a ticket from Brighton to London Terminals is valid to Victoria, Waterloo (changing at Clapham Junction), London Bridge, Blackfriars and City Thameslink or Charing Cross Waterloo East or Cannon Street (changing at London Bridge). It would not be valid to, for example, London Euston or Paddington as this would not be on the line of route and would involve crossing London using another mode of transport.
So no good for the tube.wiggy001 said:
Are you talking about a Thameslink train and she works somewhere like Farringdon?
If so I would expect a London Terminals ticket to be fine for Blackfriars and St Pancras, but not for Farringdon for example.
Any Thameslink season ticket covers 'London Thameslink' and allows you to enter/exit anywhere from St. Pancras to Elephant & Castle. If so I would expect a London Terminals ticket to be fine for Blackfriars and St Pancras, but not for Farringdon for example.
Namely St. Pancras, Farringdon, City Thameslink, Blackfriars, Elephant & Castle
Normally would include London Bridge, but no Thameslink trains are stopping there until 2018.

No unfortunately not, she would need to be on the Victoria line.If so I would expect a London Terminals ticket to be fine for Blackfriars and St Pancras, but not for Farringdon for example.
Thanks for the knowledge guys, i promise i looked before asking on her, i just didn't google my specific question
Looks like we will be going down the ticket to London + Oyster card route, as it works out marginally cheaper then a yearly travel card ticket, especially once you consider the odd day that she can work from / will be going elsewhere rather than london.
Thanks again,
JAmes

You can get London return tickets which include tube to/from Zones 1~3 which are a fair bit cheaper than the 1-6 option. Buy weekly tickets if she will be in London all week - cheaper than buying dailies. You can also buy carnet books of tickets (not a well known fact, nor advertised widely) which also work out cheaper - and you can use them when you want - at least you can on Arbelio trains into Liverpool St. Don't bother with Oyster, if she has a contactless debit card, you can use that and secure exactly the same fares as Oyster, and you don't need to buy the card nor load it up front. Thanks for the knowledge guys, i promise i looked before asking on her, i just didn't google my specific question
