Farnborough Air Show 2016
Discussion
Looking from where I live in Farnborough the F-35 wasn't that as impressive. It seems to be quite a bit smaller than the F-18 and the Typhoon and didn't quite make the same amount of noise. I couldn't see the hovering because of trees etc however.
I'm sure up close it will look a bit better.

The F-35 was easily as noisy as the Typhoon when standing underneath it. It certainly set off far more car alarms even when it was flying past straight and level.
Nowhere near as aerobatic as the F-18 (not much is) but it's display wasn't that much different to the Eurofighter. Lots of swoops and high power climb outs. Of course then it came in and did it's hover trick and because of that it will probably end up a clear crowd favourite.

F-18 still makes a lot of noise then!
At least one day this week I'm going to head out on my bike and see how close I can get to the display 'box'.
I've got two large trees framing the view from our bedroom window, and my God! You don't really notice how much they grow in two short years until the airshow rolls around again. Then the amount of each display you can(not) see reveals the true extent of nature's inexorable march...
...I now get next to no view of the displays at all, but all of the damned noise!
I was spoiled this weekend past at the Chalke Valley History Festival. The arena and the display line were in a valley,so we were treated to great views of displaying aircraft against a background that was as much green downs as it was blue (or grey!) sky. Among the aircraft displaying on the Saturday and Sunday (mostly borrowed from the Yeovilton Air Day) were...
Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress (two days)
Fairey Swordfish
Auster
Curtiss P-40 Kittyhawk
Hawker Hurricane - pulled out en route, technical issue
Supermarine Spitfire XIX - don't recall seeing this one
Supermarine Spiffire IX
Vought F4U Corsair
Yakovlev Yak-3
...just such an awesome little venue for an air display. Granted it was largely disjointed with long breaks between visiting aeroplanes, but watching them dive into the natural bowl before climbing out the other side made them seem so much closer than at more open shows.

Something else is up, can hear it from Camerbely!
F-18 again. Obviously, the air show committee want to look at some aspects of his routine again. He's been up now twice yesterday and the same again today. Eurofighter has also been up 2 times today. Expect to see them both up at least twice a day for the rest of this week.
Last Airshow they did exactly the same thing each day. We saw the A380 every single day in 'validation week' also.
Thinks it's called 'practice'

F-18 again. Most stuff seems to have done two flights today. Validating both a clear weather and a low cloud display sequence each?

I don't think it has anything to do with them wanting to check his display at all.

I assumed that the pilots who gave these displays had practised the routines already BEFORE they arrive at the display venues. And they also display at other shows as well - so they will have a basic routine worked out. He's been up now twice yesterday and the same again today. Eurofighter has also been up 2 times today. I have seen many cases where the air show committee at Farnborough have requested that they see all or part of a display routine in the validation week more than once so that they can ascertain if it meets with their fairly strict requirements.
This is the 16th Farnborough air show I will have seen.
