Farnborough Air Show 2016
Discussion
I was caught out in the open during a massive deluge and thunderstorm back in 1992. Made for spectacular spray off the runway when Concorde applied full reverse thrust.
The wettest Farnborough show was probably 1974. It rained so much that year that the Basingstoke Canal burst its banks and the end of the runway had to be protected by sandbags.
Note how wet everything looks in these 1974 images -

It might have been 1992 or 1994.
There is some live TV from Planes TV as well - although they are showing replays at the moment.

Air Show Radio presenter is saying it's a "deluge the like of which I've not seen in 20 years of covering Farnborough Air Show".
I wouldn't go as far as he did in saying that it's worse than he's seen EVER, and he was brought up in Farnborough, but by Christ the Met Office buggered their forecast up today. The BBC said it would be 'sunny intervals' until about 1500hrs, then 'light showers' until about 2000hrs.
Still, it'll save me from having to wash the Goodwood and Chalke Valley History Festival mud off my car from the last few weeks. Every cloud, etc, etc...
Never trust the met office data used for normal forecasts. Use the METAR, very accurate.I wouldn't go as far as he did in saying that it's worse than he's seen EVER, and he was brought up in Farnborough, but by Christ the Met Office buggered their forecast up today. You WILL need to book I think.
Booking is by a contact form/email and they'll 'get back to you'.
TAG, the owner/operator of the airport, has held the freehold of The Swan for a couple of years now. When the tenant/licencee surrendered the lease, they took it over and refurbished the place as an extension of The Aviator Hotel part of the business just up the road. Being a big business, they're treating the pub as just another air show revenue stream. No idea whether that's good or bad, or whether they'll have door staff to maintain the 'tickets only' thing. Maybe casual customers might be able to buy tickets at the door?

What's the situation with the road between The Swan and the FAST Museum? I used to watch from there in years gone by but haven't for a long time.
Is that now off limits?
(at least partially) Yes. I was down there on Sunday to see the A400 arrive, it was blocked off about 1/3rd of the way down, with 2 guards blocking the way. I would suspect that the entire road be blocked by now.Is that now off limits?
