Farnborough Air Show 2016

I was gonna attend this but, for such a big Airshow, it looks pants.
It's a trade show with an air show bolted on at the end. If you want to see impressive flying from big passenger jets I reccomend a visit during the week. The weekend is indeed average and one of my least favourite air shows. Also the trade show prices seem to constantly be on the rise. I'm in the industry so invite me for free or a small fee not £35/40 fortunately Boeing provided my pass last time but this year I don't have that luxury.

It's not "pants" - it's different - and it always has been. However, one major "pants" aspect of the public days (Saturday and Sunday) is the fact that the large exhibition chalets are not open. This is a major pain as up until a few years ago they used to remain open all week - and for me, that was the one big plus point of the Farnborough air show. I loved wandering around the vast halls and chatting to folk from the aviation and space industry about their projects, whether it be communication satellites, fighting forest fires using 747s or discussing the materials used for the engine mounts of Boeing 787s.
The public CAN access the airshow on Friday if they book well in advance and the chalets do stay open on Friday - so if you can get a Friday tickets it's worth while.

3 hour drive, £50, can see a better display at Weston 45 mins away for free, that's all
Depends on what you want from an "air show".As I said, Farnborough is a different type of event. I agree that the public days are not that great - especially considering the admission price. If you get to go on the Friday, it's a completely different show. Where else can you get to talk to people who design rockets, spaceships, satellites, missile systems, hypersonic research aircraft etc etc.
I'll be trying for a Friday ticket this year, if I can.

Plenty of them at Farnborough - but probably the wrong type of jets for you.
If you look at the Farnborough flying displays going right back to when the air show started (1948) you will see that the mix of aircraft was always very broad - ranging from high performance military aircraft to airliners and single engined light aircraft. Often, it's the way big civil aircraft get thrown around that impress the most.

Do you miss anything going on the Friday that would be on at the weekend?
I assume Friday is quieter, which appeals to me
Went to RIAT on Friday last year and that was excellent
Yes as Eric says it's a different show at the weekend. All the classic aircraft and display teams generally only fly on the Saturday and Sunday. I assume Friday is quieter, which appeals to me

During the week it is manufacturers displaying (you will also get military jets flying on behalf of manufacturers) nowhere in the UK will you get to see big jets thrown about like at Farnborough to me that's the appeal, all the other display teams you can see most weekends around the country every year.

I'm trying to buy a ticket for the Friday but the website page where you order tickets won't load up properly. Has anybody else had similar problems - or do they know of a ticket ordering telephone number? I've searched the site and can't see any phone numbers.
Are you on Twitter Eric? They usually respond to tweets.Trevatanus said:

Thanks for the replies regarding my ticket queries.
Even though the ticket ordering page wasn't loading properly, I found that it was still actually possible to go ahead and order the ticket. It has now all been sorted and I will be going on the Friday - so that I can wander about the exhibition halls.
