Marine Locking Knife?

Gerber EZ Rescue Knife is what you want. Yellow, locking serrated blade. Rounded point so you can't stab anyone / puncture a dinghy. Designed for water sports.

Top right in this image, blade is very good at cutting lines but doesn't look too "stabby stabby", also available as per top left with webbing cutter / marklinspike / shackle key for the saily types like me. Handle is extremely grippy even when wet - mine has replaced my Leatherman for "knife I wear at all times while sailing" duties...

I researched this before buying and it seemed that (without spending lots of money) this one was about the best for cutting rope - I wanted something for shackles and a marlin spike. The knife is pretty fearsome and it's well built (avoid if you want something very light)

edit: they have lots of other models as well which might be more suited but they can get quite pricey.

I had this exact problem, rope got caught around impeller of the jetski. Neither me or my friend had a knife and could not do anything, some people on shore saw up messing about trying to sort it out and called the RNLI. Lucky thy where doing an exercise just around the corner and cam and towed the ski and took us back the the marina. Make sure your knife is actually long enough as its quite deep inside the body of the ski. We both now give more to the RNLI as we both felt like idiots!
