Several reports on Facebook this afternoon that 4 F22's have landed this afternoon and possibly staying for a few days if anyone is interested.

Think they'd intercept me if I took the microlight over the air base? hehe

Judging by some of the publicity the Raptor's received, I think I'd take a chance in the microlight!

Apparently 4 more arriving this afternoon and staying till May, I'm not too far away so hopefully they'll fly over.

I live on the inward flight path for Lakenheath and I've been enjoying watching and photographing the F22s (and the old F15s) from my back garden this week as I'm on holiday.

But something else just flew in, and I wondered if anyone can identify it?!

It looked more like a Eurofighter, but to my (untrained!) eye it looked more stumpy and short. It was a light, gloss grey colour. I'm sure it wasn't a Raptor, it was too pointy and it also didn't sound like one, they're very distinctive sounding. It looked more like one of the European fighters but I'm well out of touch with what's what, or it may have been a Eurofighter and I'm not very observant hehe

Anyone been up there watching today and help identify it? I have my camera in the front room poised in case it comes over again, but so far it hasn't...

2 of the F22s have apparently been temporarily moved to Romania as a show of strength <cough> against Russian aggression.

Think I saw one of those last night flying very low near Norwich airport, almost as if had just taken off but seemed to be going a bit slow for that but I'm not an expert telling if planes have just taken off or not!
I first thought it was a Typhoon but it didn't quite click as one.

That looks about right. I saw it more from a rear 3/4 view, but I'd say it's very possible. Haven't seen it/any more go over since.

What is it?!

Now rumours of B1b's being based at Fairford late June for an exercise.
This is turning into an epic year for US aircraft in the UK!
