Yeah, they usually use Keflavik for crosswind testing by why go all that way if someone closer is available. Stornoway is dead traffic wise and has a super long runway so add in a nice crosswind and you have the perfect conditions for your tests.ukaskew said:

They are Lidar scanning to create 3D digital models of the topography. This is used to analyse water drainage and manage water runoff for flood management. They fly in the dead of night because the airspace is at it's quietest then, and during winter as that's when the skies are at their clearest.HTH
