Random choice of location though - why not Prestwick or similar? Unless it's crosswind testing or something.

Presumably it's totally out of the way and not busy.

Yeah, they usually use Keflavik for crosswind testing by why go all that way if someone closer is available. Stornoway is dead traffic wise and has a super long runway so add in a nice crosswind and you have the perfect conditions for your tests.

Amazing job to have - spank a jet liner around for the day with no worries of traffic or SLC throwing up everywhere.

G-MIND circling overhead at 4am, noisy little fella. Remote sensing team from the Environment Agency apparently, no idea what data they are capturing in the middle of the night though.

They are Lidar scanning to create 3D digital models of the topography. This is used to analyse water drainage and manage water runoff for flood management. They fly in the dead of night because the airspace is at it's quietest then, and during winter as that's when the skies are at their clearest.

It's from Toulouse, isn't that Airbus' base? Presume they're carrying out tests.

Nah, that's the French training in various methods of retreat.

It was a charter out of Glasgow to go and see the Northern Lights, BA do them out of most airports during November and March I think. I only know this as my boss was on it with his brother!

Sitting in a friends living room in Swindon, saw a trail, opened Plane Finder to see what it was. Cargolux 747-8. No big deal. The flight was a little odd though.
JFK-Mexico city, via Swindon?

Cargolux flights are multi-leg under the same flt number and they don't operate the same legs every day under same flt number either so you shouldn't rely on that data shown. It was actually LUX-MEX when you saw it.
