That's the flypast commemorating 50 years since the first C130K (XV176) was delivered to Marshalls at Cambridge.

You are quite correct.

XV176 was the first airframe ordered but didn't turn up from Marietta, Georgia, until May 1967. I wonder how busy Mr Lockheed's production line was at the time.

The aircraft were originally delivered to Marshalls in bare metal finish. At Marshalls they were fitted out with British avionics (eg the Ecko290 radar) as well as a freight bay floor unique to the C-130k (this was to allow the use of the MSP/HSP [Medium Stressed Platform / Heavy Stressed Platform] air-drop system already in service on the Beverley and Argosy). They were then painted in the Light Stone / Brown / Black scheme (commonly referred to as "crud 'n' custard"), before being delivered to 242 Operational Conversion Unit at Thorney Island.

It's a pity that the aircraft stored at St Athan are now being stripped and broken up. It would have been nice to have kept XV177 as a museum piece (XV176 was scrapped in 2003 havng been returned to Lockheed).

Anybody else find radar360 depressing from a British point of view?

Just had a look and the Americans had 5 F15 up along with a few transport/ tanker aircraft, we had 4 grob trainers and two light aircraft.

I did see a Typhoon land at Connigsby yesterday around the time the E3 was airbourne. Also an A400M doing touch and goes at Newquay airport it seemed. Maybe the RAF have Tuesday off and let the yanks have the airspace....

Also read yesterday about the Irish airspace is protected by RAF. Didnt know that. Learn something new everyday.

Seems to be doing similar at Brize at the moment.

I downloaded FlightRadar24 a couple days ago (the £2.99 paid version) and it's fascinating. I always see jumbo's in the sky and I think to myself "I wonder where they're off too?"

As it happens, I've learnt that as I live near Gloucester I'm under the flight path for the transatlantic flights which is pretty cool. Since paying attention to the clear skies, I literally get a jumbo flying overhead anywhere from 20k-41k feet every 5 minutes making a transatlantic flight.

Here's a couple of examples of what I see in the air:

This morning I spotted an A380 flying over from America heading to Germany (if I remember correctly) from Singapore Airlines

I also get a lot of Dublin/London flights too.

Last night at approx. 1am the flight radar app was showing only 2 aircraft over the entire country with nothing else approaching.
I think they were both heading towards Manchester that's the least amount of traffic I've seen. Christmas day had more flights shown

I am on hols and have a great view for 20km plus over 180 degrees and I was hoping to do a bit of ship / plane watching but it's been so quiet I have only seen a couple of ships and maybe 3 or 4 planes. I set up my go pro to do a time lapse and over 3 hours it only captured one aircraft

When people file flight plans like this, why aren't they shot?

Waste of time. Idiot

This is illegal

Does this schmuk really need to do this?? He's focusing on spelling and not flying. He's literally texting whilst flying. Defo red card for that

These small aircraft are annoying when they fly back and forth overhead especially in the summer when we are enjoying a spot of lunch on the lawn! They are not as bad as hot air balloons however, they are a real nuisance and rather intrusive as they fly quite low and frighten our livestock. I'm sure the balloonist would not like us to stand on a cherry picker looking into their garden.

Should be prosecuted for wasting fuel and creating excessive pollution

Never happened, if it had I think the military would have been on him like a shot.

I defy entone to fly that accurately. Photo shop con artist.
I would like to say they're all trolling but given how thick most people are in this country they're probably being serious. rolleyes

I think you are right. biggrin

My favourites are when readers comment on all the photos they have of a slim healthy women in bikinis (usually a model) and all comments are along the lines of "She needs to eat a burger" or "bag of bones, needs to put on weight". I am guessing these are from fat people who consider themselves to be normal and don't like to be reminded of the truth!

I really must try and stay away from that site but in can be comedy gold sometimes...
