Close to the EU referendum, is the almost total lack of reports on the French fuel strikes (that will impact us along with many other tourists) due to not wanting bad press about France?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-36371690

We're off on Friday but with a car that manages at most 300 miles to a tank and a villa in the south east just north of Monaco, we're reconsidering our options. Better to not attend a villa we've paid for than attempt to make it and fail.

Seems to be on BBC website and local news in SE. Why don't you get the Eurostar to Paris then TGV to NIce and local train to Monaco?

Seriously, the Le Mans section....this is national news and it's hidden in the Le Mans section!!

Did anyone else see the French police car being set on fire with the police men still inside, then the police guy getting out, being smacked by the protester repeatedly, then letting the guy get away.

I'll look for a link later.

You talk about an almost total lack of reports and then link to one of the biggest news sites in the UK.

we have news 24 almost constantly on in the background and not a single mention on there. Google pulled up two links, one for the Torygraph and the other for the Daily Whail. As for searching, I found the thread thanks under the Le Mans forum, I guess everyone going to France must be checking that forum rolleyes

I think it is being under reported, only really heard about it on international news in an airport last week.

I'm hoping I can squeeze 250 miles out of an Audi S5 next week - once I'm there I'm not too bothered, I'm in no rush to get back.

Here just west of Paris most petrol stations are now closed or with massive lines of vehicles blocking the roads.

Does anyone have any information about how long this might go on for or what the likely outcome is?

I'm looking at driving over on Friday also, got an email from eurostar telling me to fill up before leaving the UK but I certainly don't have enough petrol for the plans I have over there and getting back to calais again.

There is another thread on here. Someone drove over today and reports that there are no problems on the autoroute. I'm going on Saturday, fingers crossed the water cannons and tear gas will have done the trick by then.

Going down near Monaco Saturday, considering taking tge diesel but more chance that's out of stock. Petrol is the plan at the minute...

We may go via Switzerland but that adds a day to our travel.

Hopefully all the Gendarmerie will be too busy hosing people down to worry about a little bit of speeding.
