One final thing - hidden away amongst the American heavy planes yesterday was a Boeing 737 which had what appeared to be a pair of missiles on underwing pylons.

One on each wing. Anyone know what that is all about?
P8 Poseidon?

That's the one. Couldn't get close enough to be certain due the quite large US Marines standing quite a way from the aircraft in an attempt to stop people getting too close!!

Something most people missed was this very yummy woman sorting out her aircraft before getting in and performing an awesome display. Looked fantastic in her flying suit and long hair in front of the Extra.

Something I find odd with the F22 is that it doesn't look real. In person and in photos it looks like a CGI aircraft.
I think the canopy helps in that respect, particuarly as from many angles you can't see through it at all, it looks like nothing else I've ever seen.

That take off will never, ever get boring.

And the creepiest comment of the thread goes to..

But in all seriousness, that display wasn't fit for RIAT.

It was great, but not at RIAT.

First time at RIAT today in a very long time, some excellent displays and thankfully the weather held out. Took a few thousand photos!

I know they can't drop aircraft to accommodate others, but I can't imagine a single person there would have taken that Extra display over the F22 getting back up to complete its display. They've got to find a way to build in a little flexibility if a halo aircraft needs to move timings or something.

She displayed on Saturday when all the aircraft worked fine, she was a scheduled part of the display. And fair play to her, it's just not for RIAT is it?

I thought it was good (Saturday), I like all things flying and seeing what that a good pilot can make them do and why she has won stuff, didn't batter your year drums into submission either. Always amazes me as to how any pilot is able to do this.

Only problem with that small craft for me is I am discovering the limitations of my lens...... need a bigger one.

Now I have 1300 shots to sift. Most will be rubbish but it keeps me off the streets.

I thought it was awesome. The f22 display wasnt ad good as I remembered apart from the take off (the transit one was better) though to be fair it was cut short when the greatest plane in the planet broke. The f35 display didn't seem very impressive either..... Apart from the hover but there was none of the 'bowing' the Harrier used to do, just a spin. Give it time I guess.

The two F-35 engine options both have afterburners.
I thought the second engine manufacturer option for the F35 got canned - F35 only has one engine supplier

Learned my lesson from last year.
Filled a 32gb card (only 100 shots left on it) and shifted on to the spar 8gb. But then I take a lot of duds, the burst fire is a toy I rarely use and in the hope I get a good un in the air. To be honest my lens, and more importantly, me, we did not make a good combination for the weather on the Saturday early part. Just dumped 8gb worth in the bin. The scalpel has not finished its work yet......

Haha, I'm the same mate. My shots with that cloud cover were disappointing, but when the sun came out, I got some great shots(I think!)

Just had the Red Arrows and the F35 fly over Basingstoke, what a noise!

There was another aircraft hanging a bit further back, any idea what it was? I only caught a 2 second glimpse frown

Could have been Red 10, who sometimes flies above/behind with a photographer on board. ETA - Or Red 11 as per this tweet from RIAT:

There's my son in that picture! (probably me too)
He's kneeled on the left of the guy with an orange/black jacket.
