Looking forward to seeing the F-35 at Farnborough. I did watch it validate during the week and it didn't seem as big or as noisy as the F-18 - but it may be because it performed a tighter display overall and didn't come as close to where I live.
The F35A is double the sound of the typhoon, it was LOUD! Eric Mc said:
It didn't seem like that from my garden.
People used to say that the Harrier displays were very loud as well - but I often thought it was as much to do with the fact that it "hangs about" in the hover, therefore placing its noise in front of the crowd for a long time. The same might apply to the F-35.
It will be interesting when I see it closer next week. I might change my mind.
From my POV, which is front row at RIAT, it took off on full afterburners, not in hover, normal take off, it was loud as f**k. The F35B is quiet and slow in comparison.

F35 a or b not on the same level noise wise as the Typhoon. Much quieter, nice but certainly not anywhere near as savage as the Typhoon. I was there all day today about as close as you can get.
You must be mad. The F35A took off and full afterburners right in front of me and was easily the loudest plane I heard all day. Condi said:
Something most people missed was this very yummy woman sorting out her aircraft before getting in and performing an awesome display. Looked fantastic in her flying suit and long hair in front of the Extra.

And the creepiest comment of the thread goes to.. http://www.airtattoo.com/airshow/aircraft/aircraft...
But in all seriousness, that display wasn't fit for RIAT.
It was great, but not at RIAT.

I know they can't drop aircraft to accommodate others, but I can't imagine a single person there would have taken that Extra display over the F22 getting back up to complete its display. They've got to find a way to build in a little flexibility if a halo aircraft needs to move timings or something.
She displayed on Saturday when all the aircraft worked fine, she was a scheduled part of the display. And fair play to her, it's just not for RIAT is it?jmorgan said:
I thought it was good (Saturday), I like all things flying and seeing what that a good pilot can make them do and why she has won stuff, didn't batter your year drums into submission either. Always amazes me as to how any pilot is able to do this.
Only problem with that small craft for me is I am discovering the limitations of my lens...... need a bigger one.
Now I have 1300 shots to sift. Most will be rubbish but it keeps me off the streets.
I wish I only had 1300 to sift through, I've got about 3500 haha plus another 1000 from the F1 on Friday and yesterday! Only problem with that small craft for me is I am discovering the limitations of my lens...... need a bigger one.

Learned my lesson from last year.
Filled a 32gb card (only 100 shots left on it) and shifted on to the spar 8gb. But then I take a lot of duds, the burst fire is a toy I rarely use and in the hope I get a good un in the air. To be honest my lens, and more importantly, me, we did not make a good combination for the weather on the Saturday early part. Just dumped 8gb worth in the bin. The scalpel has not finished its work yet......
Haha, I'm the same mate. My shots with that cloud cover were disappointing, but when the sun came out, I got some great shots(I think!)Filled a 32gb card (only 100 shots left on it) and shifted on to the spar 8gb. I have to say I really enjoyed the Frecce Tricolori, not sure if it was the enthusiastic commentary or just that their display seemed to have a bit more flair than the Red Arrows. How come they were allowed to fly over the crowd for their final manoeuver?
Same reason the red arrows are allowed to fly over the crowd for their opening manoeuvre. Here's some of my RIAT 2016 (so far)
