So there's another strike today.....and in my experience the trains run better on strike days and are not as crowded due to people working from home. This is now well and truly a myth.

So there I am waiting for the 8.50 from Redhill which was on time, then 'Train Delayed' flashes up on the info screen.

Check the app and it's stuck at Three Bridges.

An announcement comes out from the tannoy "Apologies but the 8.50 is still at Three Bridges as they can not find the driver"

A big groan goes up.

Train arrives 15 mins late.

Considering that there is a limited service and only four trains an hour today, Southern, yet again have excelled themselves in how st they are.

Bump.

Drivers have now voted overwhelmingly to join the conductors & strike. Without any drivers the whole thing will grind to a halt.

FFS when will this end & when will the govt do something about it!?

Surely the franchise must be at risk of being withdrawn?

The government should at least be banging heads together, but I don't think they have the balls to even do that, let alone strip the franchise.

It's not a franchise, more a management contract. As it seems that Govia are doing the government's dirty work for them I can't see this ending anytime soon.

As the move to Driver Only Operation is a government initiative the government will continue to take no action, and presumably can't strip GTR of the management contract for the very same reason.

The resultant court case would make for interesting reading "Well My Honour, we were merely implementing the policy that the DfT were paying us to implement"

There must come a point where someone of influence says enough is enough. People have suffered, the economy will have taken a hit & there is no light at the end of the tunnel.

You are not Chris Grayling are you?

Govt wont do much as they are the driving force behind it. As a commuter I was surprised to see how much support the guards have had, and how the tide seems to be changing - people are starting to see through the 'excuses' e.g, sickness.

Latest on the Southern website - deep joy...... Love the footnote the cheeky bastds:

'RMT and ASLEF industrial Action
Due to the industrial action by drivers in the ASLEF and RMT unions, regrettably we expect Southern services to be severely disrupted on every day from Tuesday 6 December until further notice.

In addition strikes will affect Southern and Gatwick Express services on the following dates:

• Tuesday 6 to Thursday 8 December (RMT conductors’ strike)
• Tuesday 13 and Wednesday 14 December (ASLEF & RMT drivers’ strike)
• Friday 16 December (ASLEF & RMT drivers’ strike)
• Thursday 22 to Saturday 24 December (RMT conductors’ strike)
• Saturday 31 December to Monday 2 January (RMT conductors’ strike)
• Monday 9 to Saturday 14 January (ASLEF & RMT drivers’ strike)

Services are expected to be particularly disrupted on the drivers’ strike dates with no services on most routes. Other operators’ services are not affected, but may be busier. Journey planners will only be updated 24 hours before the date in question. Travel updates will be available as soon as it is confirmed here

We are very sorry for the continued disruption to your journeys.'

Well it wouldn't have sounded good had they put, 'fk you, we don't care about our passengers all we care about is getting rich and lining our pockets for the least amount of outlay and bare minimal safety standards'

Fortunately people are seeing through the faux GTR outrage and siding with the workers.
