As the last show us your boat thread died a death back in 2008 i think its time we had a new one. This time i think we need some tow cars too.

i will start us off with a bit of my boat history.

Firstly this all started with

It was a Christmas present when i was about 14 I used it on the non-tidal Medway. Then when I got my first car at 17 I sold it to a guy who was taking to France on holiday.

Quite a few years past and I kept my boating issues subdued with rentals on holiday and going out on friends boats, however I was sitting on the beach last summer watching people launch their speed boats and I decided that I wanted a boat again.

About two weeks later I had collected a 1992 Ring 16 with a 140hp Johnson.

She wasn’t the most reliable of boats but we had a blast so at the end of the season I put her up for sale, she sold around February so I was on the hunt for a new boat this time I came home with:

2002 Wellcraft 190 Excalibur with a 190hp 4.3v6 Mercruiser.

We collected her from north wales in February, driving through the snow on the way home. Gave her a good clean and polish and fixed a few bits and she was a good boat.

She went last Sunday to make way for my 3rd boat in a year and 9 days, i think I've gone a bit mad! Hopefully collecting her tomorrow I've had to have a trailer made because she has been dry stacked her whole life.

2004 Regal 2000 5.0 Mercruiser

I can do a thread on getting the regal ready for the water if anyones interested! she hasn't seen the water for 2 years.

Sadly had to sell due to dad's illness (and subsequent passing), but have some wonderful memories of sailing our little Broads beauty, Fair Lady 2.

Not the best photo, just one I found online.

^^^ Good old Craig; his website had a photo of my dad's boat too!

ETA: Have you thought about tracking it down and buying it back?

I do have their contact details, and think about it often, but sadly with a young family and a wife who is not that keen on boating, it's just not an option at the moment. My dad was retired, so was able to get up there fairly regularly to use it and maintain it, whereas I would only typically get up there with him for 3-4 long weekends a year. Treasured memories though.

I only own a medium sized kayak but I regularly race on this, which probably makes me quite sensible as I don't pay the operating costs rofl

Thank you. Not the sleekest or fastest, but a lovely boat to sail.

I had a 12ft shakespeare speedboat a few years ago that I went halves with a friend for, absolute piece of st of a boat. Sold that and decided I'd just stick to building boats.

Then earlier this year one of my mates got a little avon searider RIB, went out on that a couple of times and decided I needed a boat of my own, only problem was I had an MX5 at the time so couldn't tow anything. Bought myself a 2.4m dinghy rated for 4hp, bought a little evinrude 6hp but I couldn't get it running nicely so sold that and bought an evinrude 9.5 as a non runner, fixed that up and stuck it on.
It's a brilliant little boat, it'll do 15mph GPS which actually feels quite quick in a boat like this. I've still got it, it now gets used for taking skiers and wakeboarders out to sea and across lakes when we are using our wakeboard winch.

I sold the MX5 a couple of weeks ago so I could get a proper boat. Ended up with a 1994 Picton Royale 166 GTS fitted with a 1994 Evinrude 70hp. Good little boat, it's 17ft so has enough room to take 4 of us out along with 2 sets of skis, wakeboard, wakeskate and all the associated ropes etc. Big enough for that but small enough to launch and recover on my own. It's not the fastest thing in the world with the 70 on, but I've clocked it at 38mph and it pulls a mono skier easily. Not planning on changing the engine as this 70 is the sweetest running 2 stroke outboard I've experienced! Just in the process of fitting a decent stereo and I've got a ski pole that I need to fit.
