Good idea but probably would never happen.

There are enough special snow flake units in the millitary as it is without another taking men and money away from actual war fighting capability.

File the idea in the bin.

The cost is trivial compared to how much the Govt wastes on other things.

I note it was decommissioned the year Blair came to power and proceded to dismantle anything he didn't like. We should have it back.

Immediately thought it was Boris wanting to regain some face after Brexit, and to go lording it around the globe in luxury.

I am inclined to agree with Simpo two.....I was lucky enough to have dinner on Britannia twice during the 90's ..once in Greece and once in St Petersburg....the amount of business the ship brought to the UK was staggering............hundreds of multiples of what she cost to run....she was in amazing condition when she was de-commissioned......she now sits with her stern glands welded shut....sad end .

The decision to decommission was made in 1994. A replacement was only proposed in January 1997 (to enter service in 2002) but Portillo cack-handedly turned it into a political football.

Truth is nobody at the time was that keen on a replacement - neither the MOD, FCO or DfT wanted it in their budget and the Royal Family were far from popular at the time.

Quite right, it's a bit shocking (for me anyway) now to remember people were booing the queen outside Buckingham palace after Diana died.

William and Kate and harry have transformed public opinion of the royals since.

Completely ridiculous idea. Sure back in the day it brought in lots of money to UK PLC but things have moved on in the past 20 years.

Also which members of the Royal Family will be aboard? Prince Charles? Great idea lads.

We have warships and support vessels that can't sail due to lack of personnel. The Yacht is a non starter and should stay that way.

May proudly stood up at the UN and trumpeted the 0.7% GDP on 'aid' a few days ago. Over £12 billion. Meanwhile, the MOD have announced they're getting rid of RFA Diligence, the only forward repair ship in the RFA. You just have to shake your head at times.

I think the idea is to have the yacht privately funded and manned........I know a few ex yachties who would be more than willing to go back to their old jobs. They were a remarkable bunch of guys......dedication does not even come close ..

You make it a training vessel, and fill it with spotty oiks on apprenticeships at £2 a week. Bargain.
