"video has emerged of an Apache helicopter crashing into the sea nose down, just several meters from the shoreline off the northern Greek city of Thessaloniki. Both pilots miraculously survived the landing and were taken to hospital.
The helicopter suffered an engine failure, AP reported, citing Greek authorities."

Engine failure?

As an aside, I think there will have to be a news category for the rare occasion when a plane crash ISN'T caught on camera.

More like brain failure.....

I think that will be a very short, hat-on, no tea and biscuits discussion with the 'boss'.

Yep, engines will definitely fail with that much water in them. Bet they are glad they were paying attention in the dunker.

What the hell are they doing?! hehe

In fairness you can see a flash from the exhaust at the 6 second point of the video.

Strobe light is fitted right there either side on the Apache. Looks like he was showing off to the people on the beach and ran out of altitude/talent.

It would appear he's made a similar mistake to this American Apache pilot while trying to conduct a Return to Target. Although at least the American can say that he was at high altitude..

It'll be fine, I'm sure Greece can afford another Apac- oh.

(and this is how it should be done. Albeit in an OH-58.)

Co-pilot will be miffed, as he didn't even have time to get his swimming trunks on......... ;-)

Seems the most likely scenario....although, I'd wager lack of talent lead to the lack of altitude.....

I keep thinking of the conversation between crew members post impact......but done in a Stavros style 'hello everybody peeps' accent biglaugh

What will happen to the pilot in this scenario if the accident was found to be his/her fault entirely? Re-training, dismissal from the service, spend the rest of their career with a broom in their hand cleaning out a hangar on a base in Alaska?

I believe (from a documentary) that the next phase of said pilot's career involves flying a cargo plane full of rubber dog st out of Hong Kong.

It depends.

If the pilot was deliberately playing silly buggers then probably dismissed. If they simply made a bad mistake then probably grounded but into a job where the taxpayer still gets some return on the expensive training they've had.

Good to see the spectators rushing to help. What's wrong with people? It didn't look that far away.

Exactly what it made me think of.
Massive feck up obviously, but could have been verynasty if they'd have got trapped in there. Glad they got out.
