Fairoaks as mentioned, search for a company Starspeed, you can view from next to their office/hanger, you probably can't get closer anywhere else, the view is the pic below.

S-92 as corporate charter, that's one way to move a whole team around!

Diddy-copters? There's a regular stream of little Robinson R-22s and R-44s in and out of the school at Blackbushe (right on the A30 near Camberley) and it has a cafe too. The smaller choppers are parked up near the tower, and plenty of GA light aircraft to be seen both parked and on the runway. There were quite a few mid-size commercial helicopters operating from there too, but not sure if this is still the case. We still see lots of flights over Farnborough though. The hanger for this mob was over on the far side, next to the BCA auction site.

Big stuff? Further out there's Odiham. Very few places to (safely and legally) park there, though. But if you're lucky you could get to see some underslung load training going on. Field guns, Land Rovers, shipping containers all seen on bike rides around there this year.

Try ringing the London Helicopter (at Battersea), they'll probably let you watch some landings from the waiting room - it's right next to the apron where the choppers take off, big glass windows!

Thanks for all the replies, very much appreciated. He is around 16 months old, didn't even think of taking him too close be honest, as worried about effect on hearing. I remember seeing a pic of Prince George wearing ear protectors at Farnborough recently.

GreigR, very intrigued at your generous offer, sending a pm. Thanks

Couple of times a week from my office window:

They land on the HAC sports ground but there is a big metal gate on Chiswell Street from which you can view them very closely - sometimes touch & go come in and hover without landing though - movements not that predictable either!

Similar to Greg, if you can make it to Denham, you can sit in, flick some switches, make wop wop noises, take photos etc. No problem. I normally go down during the week. PM me.

Many thanks, wasn't expecting so much help when I started this thread.

Week is tougher as we both work and he is with the childminder, will be in touch with yourself and Greig when can arrange some time to travel over, and in the meantime check out the other options on the weekend.

Excuse my ignorance, but I assume that is something owned by the US or our military in London? Embassy?

Premises of the Honourable Artillery Company, roughly midway between the Barbican and Old Street roundabout.

It's the honourable artillery company - think there is a barracks there but not 100%

Used to work a couple of hundreds yards from there at the now long gone Merrill Lynch. Great little pub just over the road.

Are civilians allowed to get on Army posts in the UK? I'd find a heliport and park up with some binoculars.

There used to be a time when civilians used to be given fun flights on family days. In todays lawsuit climate that's all gone, unless they're on the flight manifest.

Families flights do happen in the UK, they have to be irregular (usually once a year) and last around 20min and the general interpretation of the rules is that they are immediate family, Parents, spouse, brother and sister.

My family have been fortunate enough to have flown in the BBMF Dakota round Lincoln Cathedral and multiple Chinook trips.

That's awesome. I'd love to fly on a Lynx.

Typically if the unit is OCONUS or SOCOM then the rules are more relaxed. If you're in an aviation unit in Korea, a flight is pretty much guaranteed as part of new unit orientation.

Little known fact.

The first time an aircraft flew from the HAC grounds was in 1784.
