I grew up (and still live) on the edge of Salisbury Plain, so it will always be the Herc for me. Up close and personal with the underside of ones out of Lyneham more times than I can remember.

As an RNZAF kid, I grew up with Hercs. Flew on them many times when the clapped-out 727s scheduled for the regular shuttle flights inevitably broke down. However, as much as I adore the C130, the Bear just takes the cake - it really is the very definition of cool.

Agreed, its a very niche airplane, but damn if it isnt terrifying if one of those buggers starts lighting you up

Otherwise my vote probably goes to the Tu-95

Ermmm it's wasn't that niche in the first gulf war! In fact it even shot down a helicopter! I read a book (will get the title later) about he A10 and it's done a lot of roles (obviously more jack of all than master though).

OK, hadn't realised that. But then I think any aircraft featuring a big fk off gun is going to be pretty formidable against the majority of things it engages.
