He may feel differently after a big meeting ASLEF has this evening. Regardless, the guards are not coming back.
ASLEF drivers aren't going to be as bothered as you might think about the guards. Most guards are represented by the RMT, who are continuing with their dispute.

Hold on a minute.

You realise the last two posts before yours are from current drivers who, I'd guess, have a far greater handle on the feelings of their fellow drivers than some 'interested observer'.

We're talking about people who have worked with each other for decades - whichever union they've chosen to be in doesn't really have much bearing on this.

Thanks for the casual insults, as usual. I trust that I'm allowed to utter a few words in your presence, or have you now decided that you'll also try to moderate those who have a different point of view to yourself ?

I'm well aware that the previous posts were from drivers, so what ? - they were talking about their personal views, not necessarily concerning the guards/RMT.

Jesus, stop being so precious - does the phrase 'interested observer' really bother you so much or are you just itching to be offended?

Think about it though, how can you seriously question drivers on how they may feel over the loss of colleagues?

Unbelievable.

I think it is going to be a closer vote than people might think and I wouldn't be surprised if the drivers vote against it.

Tonight I was on two trains that had faults, the first proved terminal but in both cases the driver asked the guard (who we have to have) to investigate initially and it was the guard who kept the passengers informed allowing the driver to get on with trying to fix faults. That will become more difficult with driver only trains.

This is clearly going to turn into a farce (if not already).

So we have Management and ASLEF who have agreed a deal. Only it seems the ASLEF members will reject the deal thrashed out by their own bosses.

We then have the RMT who are still shaking with rage that they weren't invited to the top table.

I also note from my daily commute we now have a load of apparently very green on-board supervisors, some of whom look like they should still be at school, who can barely pronounce some of the station names.

But, worst of all, the total absence of ticket checks/revenue protection means I can barely get a seat in First Class these days.

I think they will be more bothered about the guards than you think hehe

RMT fked this up by refusing to talk about the new role or acknowledge it. And lets not mention their own Regional Organiser who was willing to shop the guards in the metro area to protect those in coastal depots. fktard

Exactly who's going to fetch me a brew if there's no guard?

Tell me how you know Aslef drivers aren't going to be bothered about RMT guards losing their jobs.

Or don't and move onto something you know something about.

Discuss whatever you like and I'll reserve the right to keep you on the straight and narrow.

Thanks for your permission, but I'll do as I please on a *discussion* group. Not sure how a biased opinion will help keep me on the straight and narrow, but if it keeps you happy.....

So does the union represent its members or not? If not then what the hell are we doing!

who's "we"? Not sure what point you're trying to make?

Of course the union represents its members; which is why they are mandated to try and get a mutually acceptable deal with management over terms and conditions. But they can only recommend the deal to the members... it's down to the members to vote on whether they accept it or not

....now look what you made me do, you went and made me start a sentence with "but" paperbag
