I just did a 1 hour 20 minute journey on a pacer.

My god they are hateful things.

How on earth can they be kept on the lines for so long? Most of the north of England is full of them!

I've been on that 144 Evolution a few times.

Theres an old adage about sh*t and glitter which applies here.

Don't worry, ScotRail will probably buy them as soon as the sheen of newness has worn off.

And then the lucky people of the Northern Powerhouse may end up travelling on recycled London Underground trains.

Fortunately, Network Rail have banned them from virtually every line in Scotland!

Just read up on these, interesting stuff, never knew railbusses like these were a thing

Must indeed be an uncomfortable way to travel though

This was on Chris Tarrants transport over the Andes. Now that's a rail bus.

I watched that episode of Tarrant going across the Andes. IIRC the converted bus still had the steering wheel smile

They've been doing that on the Isle of Wight for the last 50 years already smile

Interesting fact - when the Isle of Wight Steam Railway is using its Austerity 0-6-0 tank (built 1952) in passenger service, it connects at Smallbrook Junction with the "proper railway" running stock that is 14 years older (ex-Northern Line stock built 1938)

Thats actually the site for the new station at Kenilworth, on the Coventry/Leamington single line. Normal traffic is Manchester/Bournemouth services and a few freights a day.

Why is the Manchester/Bournemouth service routed over a single line? (Like some sort of perverse nod to history)
