And then the lucky people of the Northern Powerhouse may end up travelling on recycled London Underground trains.
They've been doing that on the Isle of Wight for the last 50 years already Interesting fact - when the Isle of Wight Steam Railway is using its Austerity 0-6-0 tank (built 1952) in passenger service, it connects at Smallbrook Junction with the "proper railway" running stock that is 14 years older (ex-Northern Line stock built 1938)

Thats actually the site for the new station at Kenilworth, on the Coventry/Leamington single line. Normal traffic is Manchester/Bournemouth services and a few freights a day.
Why is the Manchester/Bournemouth service routed over a single line? (Like some sort of perverse nod to history)Gassing Station | Boats, Planes & Trains | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
