Just bought some luggage scales and thought I'd see what my bike weighs.

What does yours weigh?, I bet there are quite a few sub 5kg bikes out there!

Mine is 10.2kgs but that's a L Commencal Supernormal framed 1x10. Heavy compared to road bikes but it's supposed to withstand jumps and stuff, plus the forks are about 1.5kgs. Still, it's light for a humble aluminium MTB that cost me around £1,000 to put together. Any lighter and it'd break anyway what with my 90kgs !

I've got no accurate weights for any of my bikes really.

I know what the manufacturers claim they weigh, but that's an irrelevance really when I think about how much crap I sling on them. Mudguards, lights, cages, bottles, me, the random variety of crap stuffed into my pockets, a different set of tyres, etc.

It's never going to weigh the same twice, I don't think. I did get obsessed with weight when I bought my Emonda, but as soon as I started to load it up for longer rides I realised how silly that was. At one point I knew exactly how much three alternative wheelset upgrades would cost in "pence per gram saved" but then I spent my upgrade fund on a tank of fuel for the car and a holiday because I knew I'd enjoy that more.

I'm not sure I could weigh my bikes anyway. I've not got a bathroom scale, and my kitchen scale won't weigh more than 5kg - and I know all of my bikes weigh more than that!

I might tap up my neighbour to see if she'll lend me her bathroom scale, out of interest, and if I do I'll report back!

Just bought this:

Cube 2016 Attain GTC Pro Disc - carbon frame and 105 all round. Weighed it at 9.2kg which is within 200g of what the manufacturers claim. Not superlight but it's a Sportive bike not a race machine. Hopefully the gears are low enough for me to get to the end of the Etape du Tour in July.

I took my saggle bag, my mini flashing lights and my garmin 1000 including mount off before weighing.
I left the bottle cage and garmin hub and peddle sensors on so could have shaved a bit more off it's bare weight.
But hey didn't want to be obsessive;)

What have you got 11-28?

I had them change the 11-28 for 11-32 when I bought my bike last year.
They had to change the derailleur and the chain too but didn't charge me extra!

After watching that program last year I think you are brave for taking that on! Don't think I could do it.

I just weighed my Allez sport and that came in at 9.4kg.

I have to say I'm bit disappointed that it doesn't weigh more with the cost difference of both bikes!

5kg is getting into serious weight weenie territory and not as common as you'd think.

6kg and below is quite achievable but you'll be hunting out some quite tasty and expensive parts to get there.

My Tarmac SL4 Expert was 6.8kg, but it was a 58cm frame which doesn't help to start with.

The only savings I could make further would be some light tubular wheels which would save 400-500g.

I had a Ultegra groupset with DA cassette but an S Works chain set. I could've saved about 200g going to a DA brake set, shifters and mechs.

I had an Enve post, S Works stem and light alloy bars, I could've saved about 50g with carbon bars, saddle was already carbon railed.

That lot would've got me near to 6kg but would've cost thousands!

It'll be interesting to see if any sub 5kg bikes are posted and what the cost associated to that weight is.

Best off looking on weight weenies.

At the 5kg and below people are buying lightweight components from specific companies like AX Lightness, Tune etc whilst also 'tuning' off the shelf stuff like drilling lever blades, dremelling mechs, bonding brake pads to CF carriers etc.

You've probably got a mix of home brew bargain builds through to Colnago C60s built with Super Record, Lightweight (the brand) wheels and carbon finishing kit or in cash terms ~£10k for a ~6kg bike.

There are a few sub 4kg builds on there too.

I have a 2013 Canyon Ultimate CF SLX that is now my climbing bike.

Non standard parts are Dura Ace 11 speed groupset, Canyon aero bar (not for weight but because I like it), Planet X CNC brakes and Chinese carbon tubulars.

It comes in at a smidgen over 6kg and certainly didn't cost 10k!

My bike would win for heaviest and it's a two man job so will have to wait until I have another pair of hands to assist.
Off to find the bathroom scales in the mean time.

I bought a cheap luggage scale off Amazon a few months ago expecting it be be inaccurate....... Well it wasn't eek
I took it to my pal in the local Post Office and we hung a plastic carrier bag on it (20g) and lots of other weights up to 20kg and it was spot on all the time. Also took them off and re-applied to check repeatability. A first class item for under £3. Totally unexpected. My bike weghs 10.5kg without my rack bag BTW. That's a steel butted touring frame with rear carrier and mudguards - about right I reckon.

It has 11-32 and 50/34 which is better than the Scott I've been riding for the last few years.
Brave or stupid - it's a fine line.
