Although we all know that the train won't be along for aome time, we all have to say he's an idiot. His biggest risk was colliding with the far barrier, not the train.
At which point the car would likely have ended up fouling the rail line - at which point he/ or she, his/ or her passengers and anyopne on the train that we know is coming along is the biggest risk - No excuse, absolute dick moveGrahamG said:

So not a 'dick move', given the far barrier wasn't struck?Depends on the type of crossing, and the line speed. Some are CCTV operated, the signaller has to clear them as a train approaches, if they don't, the train will not pass and get slowed to a stop on a red.
A slow speed one, may just have treadle things on the track that detects you're approaching and activates the crossing, then you get a flashing white light.
Still not as bonkers as the barrier less ones (look up Canute Road, Southampton East Docks on YouTube). Nearly always get cars, and pedestrians jumping across there, shame really as I always give it massive horn action - wouldn't want to live in the flats right next to the road!

Anyone know typical timings at this crossing?
It's not one where the barrier comes down and youre stuck for what seems like half hour
I've been stuck at the level crossing in question for a good 5 mins or more in the past. The crossing itself is not far from Langley Green station so isn't high speed as such so lots of people do take liberties at that crossing on quite a regular basis, cars and pedestrians. It's not one where the barrier comes down and youre stuck for what seems like half hour

I used to live just round the corner from there. The car transporters that go through there are so slow that crossing as a ped isn't such a bad idea, it's no different to seeing a car coming judging it's speed and then crossing the road. You must be going 5mph tops when you enter that crossing from the south? The idiots are the people who pull onto the crossing in their cars/buses/taxis etc every rush hour it happens.A slow speed one, may just have treadle things on the track that detects you're approaching and activates the crossing, then you get a flashing white light.
