Well, Number 4 off Avspecs Mossie production line flew for the first time a few weeks ago, test flown by Steve Hinton.

From those that were there on the day, the woodwork for No.5 (for Biggin Hill) is well under way in Avspecs hanger smile

The burnt out remains (what there was left) were all destroyed by BAe after the conclusion of the investigation.
A profligate act in hindsight given the identity could have had a not-a-new-aeroplane-guv glued to it.

Which is exactly what BAe didn't want to happen, and why it did that.

Which corporate bigbrain has a crystal ball that told them in 20 years a mad kiwi would build a set of jigs and produce new airframes?

They likely didn't foresee that eventuality, but, they didn't want any parts or remnants that might end up outside of BAe, as two crew were lost.
What had been RNHF at the time, for the same reason didn't want the ID of the Firefly that crashed at Duxford to be returned to airworthy (which might have been possible given there was no fire) but I think the wreck of that might still exist at Yeovilton...?

The corporate mind and the entrepreneurial mind don't have much in common.

Ironically it was the latter type that got the Mosquito flying in the first place.

Seems a bit precious, there are airframes that have been in fatal accidents that have subsequently been restored.

Yes, but privately owned ones, not ones owned by UK state, or UK large commercial organisations such as BAe/RR.

After RR lost the Spit Mk.14 at Woodford, it made the same decision, and then acquired the former BBMF Mk.19 after Euan English died........but, then in 2002 made the decision to rebuild the usable remains of the Mk.14 into a new build fuselage ordered from Airframe Assemblies....which surprised many people.
However, just a few years later, for reasons never made public, they reversed that decision, and ordered their team to remove all the original parts from the project, and to sell off all the new build items.
