eharding ,
Had an early start this am so logged off early , but yes, 5 at Binbrook. Had some interesting times in that tin shed at the end of the runway , which I think (could be wrong ) is the one going to be re-erected at Bruntingthorpe.

Phwoar the Victor is a beauty!

The Victor and the Vulcan were always my favourite two planes at Cosford when I used be taken there on a rainy summer Sunday. That and the white RAF supersonic jet, forget the name, was a prototype, trying desperately to remember what it was called!

Sad to see that Vulcan go, I love radomly placed static displays of old aircraft.

Cheers for the pictures you two. I wanted to say TSR2, but wasn't sure if that was right. Amazed at how good my memory is.

Lovely looking plane, but I think when I was that young I liked it because it was white and 'spacey'.

As a side note, the TSR2 at Duxford has been undergoing a full restoration.

I would think it will be lving in the new "Airspace" building before too long.

Sad indeed

Miss them and their characteristic whine at airshows.

I had a butchers around XL426 at Southend last year.

I remember that!

I have been up to see the Blackpool Vulcan, and this is coming from a Vulcan lover, cutting the airframe up really was the best thing.

The corrosion had taken such a hold that I felt unsafe walking underneath the wing. One of the liquid spring shocks had split, that 1/4in steel. We went up there to see if there were any parts that could be used for 426, we found nothing. It had been badly vandalised with both control colums missing and almost evey guage smashed in the cockpit. The wheels had holes in them and the brake units had just gone.

Its a sorry sight but the best thing for the aircraft.

There are only three Vulcans in the country that are worth looking at, alive aircraft;

XH558, Bruntingthorpe. In bits and not open to the public
XM603, Wellsbourne. Alove and well being well looked after buy a group of dedicated engineers
XL426, Southend. Also doing well. Run evey 28 days and, again, looked after by a group of tallented engineers.

I really must organise a visi for PH to XL426.

XM655 at Wellsbourne.

XM603 at Woodford might be though, it was close to running in 2000 and XM575 is rumoured to be a runner too.

Oh bugger, 603 was a runner but BAe put a stop to that. Most of the 'Old Boys' that were looking after her have either died or left.

Can't find it atm, but if you dig about for info on the TSR2, you can read a report of how it was pulling away from a Lightning on full reheat, while it was only reheat on one engine.

Shame it got canned

It was an old aircraft that was no longer needed.
Whats criminal is successive governments destroying Britains ability to design and build new and groundbreaking technologies, such as the TSR2.

There's still one parked at RAF Waddington, (alongside the A15), and another at Newark Air Museum that you can actually go in to - if the relevant volunteer is on duty. Newark have a Shackleton you can enter on same basis, too.

Nice to see that old threads never die.

If you go to East Kirkby, ask nicely and pay some money you can get inside their Lancaster. Through the Summer they also get it taxiing a couple of times a week and a couple of times a month they fly their Spitfire at the same time.

I can sit in my back garden and watch the Red Arrows playing..................cloud base and them being in-country allowing, of course.

Bomber Country is a great place to live and Cadwell is half an hour away !

As far as I recall, ther was one at Coventry Airport for some years, I'm not sure if it still there. A splendid aircraft indeed, but look how the Concorde fleet has been treated, what chance for the Vulcans?!
Just up the road from me, almost walking distance! Still there last time I passed.
