Maybe that's why the Ruskies have been flying all their missions, they've heard the project is nearly over and thought they'd better show they're ready for a resumption of hostilities...

Great news! The guys at Bruntingthorpe have now restored the Vulcan to a condition where it can taxi, and once final approvals are gained, fly! Here's a clip of the first taxi http://www.tvoc.co.uk/imagegallery/gallery/Flight_...If you are in anyway interested in this, sent them money. Even a fiver can make a difference.

I would give it a few years yet. It will take the Campaign Against Aviation a hellova lot of paperwork before anything will happen. I think when the paperwork equals the weight of the aircraft it can be certified to fly. It took the CAA 2 years for them to turn a piece of paper over to get an English translation, imagine what they are like when work has actually been done. And relax.

Notams have been posted for Vulcan test flights over the next couple of weeks. The Notam (which was posted about a week ago) comes into force today, until 2 November.
So it could be that she will be airborne later this week or next week.
Of course it is all being kept quiet to stop masses of crowds.

I was there on Monday, we were told that we might have to get off the runway at lunchtime for them to do some taxiing, but nothing came of it, and it never left the hangar. They were checking the runway over and scaring birds away during the day though. I also overheard in the cafe at lunch that they were waiting on someone to come, possibly an engineer and maybe it would be taxiing on the tuesday.

on an associated (sort of) thread get yourself a copy of Vulcan 607 - it tells the story of the raid on the falklands airstrip and is feckin! brilliant, the story of the soon to be scrapped V force carried of the most incredible feat of endurance and bravery it is sensational! I can remember as a newbie in the RAF I was learning how to fix engines in St Athen when two Vulcans left the maintenance unit and I got a "stiffie" am I weird? the noise shook you to the very roots of your soul (the eight Rolls Royce Olympus engines bellowing overhead at 100' not my useless stiffie!) steve

My dad used to take me to Waddington to see these things (all white ones) fly in the mid 70s ...
The earth literally shook. The Phantomns at Coningsby were good, but not quite the same after that.
