I've had my doubts for a while...
ETA An appearance wasn't required, just an en-route fly over. I wonder if anything had been requested?

As one of the organising committee of the Sywell show we were not aware that they were transitting so close to us on their way back from a private display at Dunsfold (as they kept the location of the display a secret - draw a line from Dunsfold to Doncaster on the map and it goes right over Sywell).
We had a packed schedule and it would have needed some very careful rearranging to fit a flypast in but I'm sure we'd have welcomed it if they'd contacted us to offer one (and had the price been acceptable of course). We would have been unable to advertise it in advance due to previous disappointments however, so it wouldn't have made any difference to our gate figures.

I always think last minute ad hoc changes to an airshow are generally not a "good idea".

Eric - we don't do ad hoc hence why I mentioned careful rearranging; it's not something we could have rejigged on the day but of course with VTST knowing days in advance that they had a display commitment it would not have needed an on-the-day arrangement.

I would guess (hope) for one, the Sywell area was "NOTAM" restricted and this would have been checked during the planning stage for the "Private Display". TVOC works very closely with the Blades and I wouldn't be at all surprised that TVOC were contacted to display at Sywell. Maybe, just maybe, Sywell didn't want to pay the full rate, as it's air display is in aid of charity. Maybe, just maybe, a f k you to an en-route fly past was the result... We'll never know, but IMHO it does seem very strange...

We didn't book XH558 as we've done so twice and had two no-shows. The level of grief we get from the public when a star act does not turn up is, shall we say, impressive. So we spent the money on the Red Arrows instead.

Exactly - it's always best to stick to the original plans when it comes to airshows.

I'm also involved in the Little Gransden show, which - like Sywell - falls on the same day that XH558 is displaying at Dunsfold (a public display this time). So I'm pleased to say we now have a flypast from XH558 scheduled for our show at Little Gransden - details of the rest of the line-up are at the show's website - www.littlegransdenshow.co.uk

Nice one Damien.
Saw 558 fly over the Bird Fair at Rutland Water last Sunday, just about everyone looked skywards and followed it until it could no longer be seen!!

Most display acts you don't pay for until after the show so no-show = no-dough.

Does anyone know what time it is supposed to be displaying at Dunsfold this weekend?

On facebook, 558 Are saying that at some point today either to or from the Clacton airshow, they'll be transiting via Southend and overlying XL426.
Just wish for once I was at home. I'd camp out at the airport to see that.
